Guest guest
Hello All, I'm new to the list service and please forgive if there is a FAQ out there that I don't know about. We just started our 4 year old son on a GFCF diet and have a few questions. It is suspected that my son is somewhere in the Autistic spectrum. 1) The first week of the diet saw remarkable changes in behavior and communications skills. After the 7th day, some of the Autistic traits returned. Is this normal and if so, how long does this last? 2) Are there complete success stories with the diet? If you have one, what age was your child when you started the diet? 3) Has anyone sought the help of a Gastrointerologist (sp?)? If so, was a PST deficiency test administered (Liver Detox test) and how did it help? Also, have you used a secreaton enzyme as a method of treatment for your child? 4) Do any of the moms have Rh- blood incompatibilities with their child? If so, was the Emmunoglobulin shot administered during pregnancy or after delivery? 5) Is anyone familiar with Dr. Sudhir Gupta's research on Emmunoglobulin therapy for children with these kinds of digestive problems? 6) Are parents with kids on this diet finding it difficult to find doctors that will take these dietary considerations seriously while treating their children? Guest guest
Hi - see my answers below - > 1) The first week of the diet saw remarkable changes in behavior and > communications skills. After the 7th day, some of the Autistic traits > returned. Is this normal and if so, how long does this last? You will see withdrawal and regression, it takes a while for the gluten to get out of their systems and it can be a bumpy ride. This is probably a good sign - he is detoxing > > 2) Are there complete success stories with the diet? If you have one, what > age was your child when you started the diet? I have read several success stories, including full recovery (loss of Autism label and related services) We are not there yet, but we have come a really long way. I think the diet is a part of the puzzle and we are making sure he gets the proper therapies too. > > 3) Has anyone sought the help of a Gastrointerologist (sp?)? If so, was a > PST deficiency test administered (Liver Detox test) and how did it help? > Also, have you used a secreaton enzyme as a method of treatment for your > child? We haven't done either of these, but there are folks on the list who have. > > 4) Do any of the moms have Rh- blood incompatibilities with their child? If > so, was the Emmunoglobulin shot administered during pregnancy or after > delivery? I am Rh- and I got a Rhogam shot at 28 weeks and right after my son was born. This shot had Thimerisol in it - (mercury) - it could be part of the problem, but there are no scientific studies published yet to prove this... yet... > > 5) Is anyone familiar with Dr. Sudhir Gupta's research on Emmunoglobulin > therapy for children with these kinds of digestive problems? Dr. Gupta administers IVIG - intravenous immunglobulen (sp?) - I know a parent who has tried this for their child and found extremely helpful. We haven't gone this route due to logistics and also giving our kid intravenous anything would be a challenge that we are just too chicken to face - we haven't ruled it out, but we are doing quite well for now. > > 6) Are parents with kids on this diet finding it difficult to find doctors > that will take these dietary considerations seriously while treating their > children? Our pediatrician tested our son for allergies and found them, so she " believes " in this diet. We did make the choice to postpone our younger child's vaccinations, and our ped is not pleased with us, but is tollerating us. Find out from folks in your area the doctors who are sympathetic. Also, we decided to work with Dr. Jerry Kartzinel in Florida, even though we live in California, because he and Dr. Bradstreet seemed to be on the cutting edge of all of this type of medical intervention. Both of them have autistic sons who they have helped with medical intervention. > > Thanks you in advance, You are welcome... Hope that helps a bit. Guest guest
Yes, the injection was given to me twice during the pregnancy, and one after delivery.
