How did that happen?

I am still puzzled over this. This morning, Maysa was up first, so I got her ready first. She was in such a good mood this morning, singing, dancing, babbling… Anyway, after changing her from head to toe, I put the DOC band back on her head and put her in her crib while I go and get her sister ready for school. She has the music on and she usually likes looking at herself dancing in front of the mirror while standing in her crib. Well, after maybe 5 or 10 mn, I go back in to check on her and she is holding her band in her hand and waving it at me! The velcro is still closed all the way and I am sure that there is no way she could have opened it. I know that she sometimes pulls down at it to the point where the front of it covers her eyes but for her to pull it completely off!

How did that happen?

I have heard of kids taking it off, but I would think that it is loose if that

is happening. Maybe you're losing it and never actually put it on her head ;-)

Or, maybe you forgot to fasten the velcro?

Occasionally, will pull on the strap while in her car seat, but she doesn't get it all the way off. She pulls part way and then puts it back. We end up with a crooked strap when we get her out, but we just fix it.

Our slightly older babies are developing more fine motor skills than these little ones, but I'm not sure whether they could actually get the strap off since it's a strong hold (at least ours is).

Was the strap closed or open on the helmet when she had it in her hand?

Well, I emailed Amber, our ortho at CT, yesterday and she told me that she's had a few parents mention to her how they would go and wake up their child in the morning to find out that the band was laying besides them in bed. She told me that Maysa is getting stronger and that wiggling her little fingers under the band could sometimes do the trick. She also had some foam shaved off her band just this past Monday so the band is a little looser around her head. She does pull her band down on her face quite often and likes to play peek-a-boo with it, but I never thought she could take it off by doing that.

Also, after thinking about it over and over, I am absolutely sure that I did put the band on. It is not my habit to just toss the band in her crib. I also fastened the velcro and the velcro was closed just the way I always do it when she was waving it at me.

I am not worried, just puzzled still. Her head looks great and that's all that matters.
