If you had insurance pay for anything...it made it cheaper than self pay and I can completely understand your choices! As much as I don't like the program fee I would probably have paid it to if my insurance would have picked up anything towards my insurance. I guess the thing with the program fee in my mind is if you arent able to utilize the aftercare, you shouldnt be made to pay for it. Since you are close enough, at least you'll be able to get something for you money. I just really see this as a way to stick it to us and get more cash on this deal. If they don't feel the insurance is paying enough, why aren't they all doing something about it? Why are they signing contracts? Why are they offering the surgery? I wonder if they get more doing other types of surgery? Most likely....but if not, I don't see anyone charging extra fees for those things. I'm glad you found a way to make it all work for you and really its up to each of us what and how we choose to pay. No one can determine what is right or wrong for each individual...I think we more or less feel as if we're once again being penalized for being fat, even if we're trying to correct our health. ~~* AJ *~~ Age 37 5'8'' Post op 7/24/01 Open BPD/DS self pay - Dr Baltasar -Alcoy Spain 07/24/01 BMI 64 415.1 08/06/01 BMI 59 390.2 -24.9 lbs! -10.75 inches 08/16/01 BMI 58 387.0 -28.1 lbs! -11.25 inches 08/24/01 BMI 58 386.5 -28.6 lbs! -15.5 inches 08/30/01 BMI 58 378.3 -36.8 lbs! -21.25 inches 09/10/01 BMI 57 373.0 -42.1 lbs! Guest guest
I was surprised how little my insurance approved for my surgeon fees ($1500). I had a D & C about 2 months before my DS surgery and the surgeon got over $1000 for that. The D & C was to help problem female stuff and it only lasted about 10 minutes. My DS surgery was over 4 hours and much more involved than the D & C. I had c-sections for my kids and the surgeon got about $5000 for each of those. A c-section isn't a simple procedure, but it doesn't seem right that the DS surgeon got so much less. Kathy M.
