This is reasonable normal. Just hold him all he needs, it will not spoil him.

He'll be crawling about and running away from you soon enough. Right now he's

frustrated and needs your comfort. Just do what you need to do to help him and

it'll all work out. Hang in there. He should be better soon. It can be

frustrating to them at first, but he'll adjust. Let us know if he's still

unhappy in a day or so. HUGS!

1st case on

I was just wondering how long they are fussy after they get the first

cast on. My child has never cried like he did last night and this

morning. I don't know what I can do to help him be comfortable. I've

tried everything but he still cries. The only time when he calms down

a little is when you hold him and rock him. I am scared that I am

holding him to much to where he will always want to be held. It

seemed like last night the only time that he would sleep well was when

you would be holding him. We never have held him to sleep so I just

don't understand what is going on.. Can someone help me, help comfort

my child through this.. I never realized who hard this would be one

us to.

Don't know how old your baby is, but I would say you simply cannot hold a baby

" too much " . He needs you right now more than ever - so meet that need. Babies

grow up in to children who don't want held anymore...I just mean you can't hold

him too much. Particularly as an infant. If you don't already have one, buy or

sew yourself a sling to carry him with you. He has no concept of what is going

on, only that he needs comfort and the only place he knows where to seek that

from is from his Momma. Why would you even want to deny it to him?

Any sleep-alone issues that might develop can be dealt with later when his

need for holding is less important to his over all welfare. Natural growth and

maturity will often cure itself in this area.

A couple other things in the mean time - has his foot slipped up in to the cast

at all? That could (does) cause pain and even sores on the skin at times. Any

slippage also renders that cast worthless. It will do his foot no good, and can

many times, do his foot more harm than anything by forming it in to the WRONG

position.

Also, pain like this can be an indicator that your doctor isn't doing the right

things to the foot. Are you seeing a real Ponseti doctor? If you are, and

have no questions in your mind about that - then look for slippage.

If he claims to be a Ponseti doctor, double check. There are many instances

here among these hundres of parents of doctors " claiming " to use the method but

who are not (and thus the children really suffer!)

If it's not a Ponseti Method doctor, remove the painful cast(s) and look for

another doctor. Delayed treatment is better than bad treatment. If that is the

case we are ready and very willing to help you find the appropriate care. The

difference between right casting and wrong casting is huge and the bad results

will follow your child through to old age on messed up feet. Like wise, good

results will also follow the child through old age.

Try to let us know more how we can help, OK? And hold the little booger...don't

buy in to that whole " spoil the baby " propaganda pitch.
