I haven't had this surgery yet but I had an open gallbladder removal about 7 years ago. I found it was about a year before I could really say the muscles were healed. They didn't hurt all the time or even most of the time, but every once and a while certain movements pulled on those muscles. So it could very well be a while before that completely goes away.
