Guest guest
Everyone whom I have come in contact with has been very receptive. This group is VERY helpfull. You can just read the posts, or jump in and ask questions. This is not a solitary process and you need support. This is a great place to get it. > > I dont know if it is shame or what but the thought of talking to my > doctor about WLS feels overwhelming. Guest guest
Hi Jenni, I am 28 also (started the process at 27 @ 284.5 lbs.) I am now about 6 months post off and down to about 168 lbs. It is the best thing I have ever done for my life and my health. I am happier and more energetic. I can keep up with my 6 year old and my only regret is that the shame you talk about kept my from talking to my PCP for 2 years before I got up the nerve to ask for it. Best of luck to you! Guest guest
Jenni, I totally know what you are going through. I am fairly early in the process myself and I had a difficult time talking with my PCP about it. I was so worried that her would just tell me being Fat was all my fault and to diet more. The first time I tried to talk to him about WLS I was very timid about it and he did pretty much brush me off, told me to do the wight loss class through Kaiser first. About a year later, after a lot of educating myself, reading up, asking lots of questions I finally decided to ask him again. This time I was much more assertive and pretty much told him I had to have it. He agreed and was happy that I had learned so much about it. Ultimately, I think it depends on the doctor you have and how much you push for it. It is a HUGE commitment and there is no turning back once it is done. I think most doctors want to make sure you are prepared for what is ahead. If this is what you know you need for a healthier life you should go for it. Best of luck to you, >
Guest guest
Jenni, don't let fear keep you from talking to your doctor about WLS. I don't know which facility you are working with, but no matter which Kaiser I have ever been to, I have found all the doctors and nurses to be VERY compassionate and helpful. Okay, there are certainly a couple exceptions, there is in any group. Talk to your doctor and even if s/he isn't receptive, see someone else. If you meet the criteria, you should have the opportunity. Good luck to you! Ron I am new and thinking about WLS I dont know if it is shame or what but the thought of talking to my doctor about WLS feels overwhelming. I have struggled all my life with my weight, and as soon as I graduated high school I started to gain... In high school I was swimming 5 hours a day so it helped to keep the weight off... but as soon as that changed I instantly started to gain weight. I am now almost 300 lbs at 28 years of age. I have sleep apnea, endometriosis, chronic fatigue etc. How has your experience been with Kaiser? Are the doctors receptive? Or do they look you like,,, well you just need to try harder and give you yet another six months to loose weight? I guess I am just wondering what I am in for....Thanks
