Guest guest
The BPD does not maintain a normal functioning stomach. The stomach is made somewhat like the RNY, but left bigger without a really small stoma (opening to the intestine). Often the pyloric valve and lower portion of the stomach are totally removed. Guest guest
, The original BPD procedure was invented by Scopinaro. It involves a " distal gastrectomy " which means that they remove the bottom half of your stomach (including the pyloric valve). In the duodenal switch procedure a " sleave gastrectomy " is done. Put another way, they cut vertically rather than horizontally. The pylorus is prerved, and there is no dumping syndrome with the BPD/DS. In addition, marginal ulceration is not a problem with the BPD/DS, but was with the BPD. The BPD/DS has fewer side effects as well.
