Is there any one here from Modesto ?calsnoozie wrote: Stacibarbee,I am also going through Richmond. Your acceptance letter probably states that you will be contacted within two months from acceptance to schedule an Orientation date. I was contact at week #7 from acceptance to schedule Orientation (which was 2 weeks later = 9 weeks from acceptance). (Yes- those 7 weeks seemed like forever!!)At Orientation (3 hour group appointment), a surgeon will speak and give a presentation of the the two different kind of

surgeries that they are doing, go over pros & cons, risks, etc... Beth, the Nutritionist, will also go over the recommended 1200 calorie plan (to help you lose the 10% before surgery - actual amount of required weight loss before surgery will be determined during your surgeon consult appointment - we were told that the average is 10%) plus some facts on what your eating will be like after surgery. The last part of the Orientation - a Case Manager will speak to the group and go over the various sections of the Bariatric Binder (binder is available at KP.org - Search for Richmond Bariatric Dept. The 1200 Calorie plan is also in the binder. Try this link for a copy of the binder in PDF format: http://www.permanente.net/homepage/kaiser/pdf/39806.pdfAfter Orientation, you should be contacted within 2 weeks to schedule the first

mandatory Nutrition Class. (I was called at exactly 2 weeks to schedule the class which was 2 weeks later). Liz the Case Mgr at Orientation explained the time-line for the next steps and she was right...I received a call exactly 2 weeks after Orientation. After the first mandatory Nutrition Class - then the next appointment is with the surgeon. I was called 3 days after the Nutrition Class to schedule a surgeon consult appt (they told us during the Nutrition class that we should get a call within 1 week to schedule the Surgeon consult appt - most likely on Friday -- and it was true - the Friday after the Nutrition class - I received a call). This is the stage where I am at as of today. They offered me the first available surgeon appointment or I had the choice of a surgeon. I opted to wait 1 additional week to get the surgeon of my choice. During the Surgeon appt, you will be told the amount of required weight

loss before surgery (assuming the surgeon approves you for surgery...). This is all I know so far...I started the 1200 Calorie Plan 2 weeks after Orientation. If my goal weight loss is 10% before surgery- I should almost be at goal weight for the surgeon consult appt. (I've been sticking to the 1200 calorie plan and it works (it's not easy but the weight is coming off!)). I think after the Nutrion & Surgeon appt - the rest is up to you on how fast or slow you take the required weight off. I think once you are at goal weight - you call & make an appointment with the Case Mgr then you will receive a surgery date (I think the surgery date is running 3-4 weeks after meeting the Case Mgr).I hope this helps you.Sue from Vacaville>> I have my first appointment with a psychologist in Richmond on 07/18.> I already saw a nutritionist and a psychologist in Antioch.
