I got this poem in my e-mail a few days ago and I thought it was adorable and very clever. To me it had just the right amount of whimsey, sweetness, and pride. What could possibly have been offensive about that poem? Tracey in San Diego
Guest guest
You would be more accurate to say " I didn't see anything racist in it " . That does not mean that it isn't racist to those who others. Nor do those who see that deserve to be insulted. Been there, heard that about sexist, racist and ageist jokes. And of course the ever acceptable put downs of the obese. I understand seeing it as racist. I understand that you don't. Different sensibilites, different people. Most polite people say I " m sorry you were offended " not suggest that there is something " wrong " with the person who responds that way. in Seattle > I enjoyed it. There isn't anything racist about it. Some people just > sit around waiting to be " offended " . >

Guest guest
Racism isn't defined by individual choice. Regardless, I've YET to hear exactly what was " racist " in that poem. I'm sorry you were offended, but I'm offended by your being offended. Hopefully, you won't be offended by me being offended by your being offended. Ms. Moderator, I'm sorry. I'll shut up now. joseph > > I enjoyed it. There isn't anything racist about it.
