Guest guest
Phyllis I am so sorry it's been tough. I agree with the others to take one day at a time. I find sometimes I make too many changes at once and it takes awhile for my Sammy or the other NT kids to adjust. I think it is best that everyone ( school included) take a long breathe and look over plan that was orginally agreed upon and follow it. If everyone agrees it is no longer appropriate than perhaps it is time for a new plan. It sounds like your son has made some progress and everyone gets excited when that happens but everything still needs to be done in a consistent manner. I also have one younger child than Sam and I become overwhelmed looking for signs of ASD. I'll tell you a funny story about Sammy and ASD signs. Sam was diagnosed last year PDD-Nos but she doesn't fall into the label perfectly( like anyone else does?) Anyway, I was still in denial and would comfort myself on certain symptoms she didn't have. Of course my wonderful day care person was trying everything to get Sam to do age appropriate things like -speech and imitation. One particular day I arrived at day care and found Sam spinning around and around on the front lawn. I was horrified. I told Sam to stop and began to cry and have a major meltdown. tried to comfort me and ask me why I was crying. In between my sobs I explained how this was another ASD symptom. began laughing saying she and other kids had been spinning all morning and that everyone in the daycare was delighted that Sam had imitated the other children. They all had been spinning! They thought it was an achievement, and it was. I think you always need to look at the behavior in the context it occurs. I hope it helps and take care Jeneane, Houston Nick -NT-5 -PDD nos-3 Beth -NT-
