Guest guest
Hi all, We are new to the diet(4 weeks) and have a few questions. Are any of your kids soy intolerant? I am having trouble finding margarine, cheese, cooking spray etc. I am also having trouble getting my oldest son(Adam, age 5 PDD) to eat much of anything. He will NOT try anything new. He refuses to eat the GF bread, most of the cereal and the rice milk. How do you get your kids to eat? He's skinny to begin with and I'm a bit worried. Also, how do you get them to take supplements? I have tried sneaking it into juice, but he always detects it and refuses to drink it. Any ideas would be a great help. Your best bet with a kid like that, is to not try and copy his favorite foods, but to give him new favorite foods. Later, when he forgets what regular foods taste like, you will have better luck with breads, cheeses, milks, etc. (Even when my kids were fine with the taste of DariFree or rice milk and gfcf cereals, the hefty dose of carbs and lack of protein was a problem, so I add a sausage or slice of cold ham or something similar.) My kids liked baked foods, so we got through the transition with brownies, muffins, coffee cakes, waffles, pancakes, and so on. All of these can be made to taste just as good as the real thing. I even think that Tinkyada and Pastariso (and maybe Dr Schars) pastas taste like wheat pasta, but not everyone on the list agrees with me. Does he like meat? My kids do, but other families get their protein from nut butters, beans, eggs. (Initially, we used a lot of eggs, but eventually discovered that we couldn't continue this.) Don't think of milk as necessary, it is important mostly as protein/calcium/liquid, just see that he gets those things from other sources. If you don't cook, fresh fruit, vegetable sticks (we add Follow Your Heart Creamy Garlic Dressing as a gfcf Ranch Dressing substitute), potato chips, beans, cookies/crackers/doughnuts from the various suppliers like Miss Robens, Glutino, Kinnikinnick. Just a few ideas, hope this helps. Lorilyn
