HI,

The diarrhea isn't unusual in the first week. Just make sure you are

getting in as much water (liquids) as possible. I have a sport water bottle

which was especially helpful. I would take sips from it every few minutes

in the first few weeks.

As for diet, didn't your doctor give you a diet plan for the fist few weeks?

Think of your new system as a baby. Start with soft foods, yogurt,

scrambled eggs, jello. Don't worry about how much protein you get for the

first couple weeks. If you can drink a protein shake. I became lactose

intolerant so I had to use either Lactaid or soy milk to make the shakes.

Lactose intolerance can make the diarrhea worst.

I also found one of the foods I did best on was egg drop soup. I could eat

just a few spoonfuls at a time, but would finish a half cup in an hour.

That way I got in both liquid and protein.

You will start feeling better soon.

Don't worry that much about eating, just make sure you are drinking alot of

water, to this day 14 months later i still carry a water bottle, I also had

diarrhea for the first three weeks the day i went for my first check up the

doctor gave me a script. and i never had to use it the diarrea stopped the

same day. and i was on liquids the first three weeks. i started with cream of

wheat, soups, i know nothing taste good but just remember to drink the only

thing i remember drinking alot of was ice tea and i tried everything. to this

day i drink only water and once in a while ice tea. ( my skin is so soft and

fresh looking) yep it is true what they say water is also good for the skin.

Good luck. linda

Hello Ed,

I had diarrhea for 5 weeks post op. I had about 5-6 bms per day. After the fifth

week, I now have one bm in the morning. And if I eat anything high in fat I will

have a bm. Before surgery I had IBS so this surgery acutally helped my IBS go

figure. My suggestion is to give your body a while to heal and if you see that

the diarrhea continues speak to your doctor. Best of luck and let us know how

you are doing!

What can I do to get it under control? Also, any suggestions for

diet that is well tolerated...

When will I really start feeling GOOD??

Thanks for your help!
