Guest guest
Kathy, Sounds normal to me. Luckily, it does slow down after a few months. Mine started just before 3 months postop, and has slowed considerably at 5-1/2 months postop. Not to say it has stopped! I still have a drain full of hair after I wash my hair, and stray hairs on my desk and clothing, but not nearly as much. One thing I noticed, as did my hairdresser, was that the majority of hair fell out when my hair was wet. So...I've tried to go several days between washing my hair, not washing it every single day. Since my hair is naturally dry, this isn't a problem for me. Well, I don't love it, but it's doable anyway! That seemed to help a lot. Also, around 4-5 months I was able to eat more, and focused a lot on protein, and I think that may have helped too. I cut my hair shorter after surgery, which was one of the best things I ever did. I started out with the world's thickest hair, so no chance of me going bald, although I lost enough in the front that it is noticeable. Had to go back to wearing bangs to cover part of it. I've never heard of anyone going bald. But I can relate to the shock. It is amazing just how much hair can fall out! Dawna

It is a side affect of any rapid weight loss. I did know a person who was close to going bald, but her hair is now growing back in nicely. It is a transitional thing and will not last forever. I had a lot fall out, and my hair is thin, so I didn't have a lot to lose. Like others I cut it short and eventually it quit falling out. Now my hair is fine (or back preop!).
