Under-Ease Wins A Prize (xpost, semi-OT)

Pardon me for this being a little long and off-topic, but these days I find

myself looking for any excuse to laugh, even if it is flatulence-humor.

Someone had mentioned Under Ease at one point...the anti-odor underwear. The

web site is at http://www.under-tec.com/. I just read that the inventor has won

a 2001 Ig Nobel Prize.

The Ig Nobel Prize is to " honor people whose achievements cannot or should not

be reproduced, " and to " celebrate the unusual, honor the imaginative -- and spur

people's interest in science, medicine, and technology. " The awards are handed

out by previous Nobel Prize winners. This year's ceremony also included a

60-second wedding and a Win-A-Date-With-A-Nobel-Laureate contest.

The awards are organized by the people who publish The ls of Improbable

Research (http://www.improbable.com), one of my favorite sites. I'm a

science-geek and it tends to be a lot of science-geek humor, if you can imagine

such a thing. There you can find links to such research gems as Feline

Reactions to Bearded Men, The History of the Universe in 200 Words or Less, and,

my personal favorite, Ultrasonic Velocity in Cheddar Cheese as Affected by

Temperature (serious research...really).
