Guest guest
Just curious... " panni " is the same or similar to a tummy tuck? I'm surprised that you had this procedure done PRIOR to your DS WLS. What is the typical order of events/surgeries? Dr. Anthone is, so far as I know, the only one doing this. He likes to hack up his high BMI patients, I guess. Panni is short for Panniculectomy and is also called tummy tuck, but it is more like the removal of a giant wedge of fat and skin. In most cases, it gets the BMI down a lot faster than dieting. Mine was only 20 lbs of fat, so it did not do a whole heck of a lot to the BMI, but it should make the DS easier, according to Dr. A. For folks with a giant hanging apron of fat, it can really improve mobility-- but what slows me down is the arthritic knees, and 20 pounds did not make a difference. Personally, I'd rather he did the DS in a two step procedure-- I have, as far as I am concerned, wasted six months, had a major surgery with an incision that came apart and had to heal the hard way and kept me out of work for eight weeks, at least, and then part time for another 4 weeks, and all I have to show for it is a giant scar, and I am missing 20 pounds of fat that hung off my abdomen along with my navel. If I'd had the DS, or even part of it in June, I'd be down close to 100 pounds by now! Now, if I ever get the dang DS, I will be out of work again for another 8 weeks, and may have yet another incision that is left open or comes apart.
