Guest guest
My ped had the same opinion when I told him that would be born with bcf. He said that u/s are not always accurate and I should not be concerned until was born. Well - - I felt that I would go with the ob and the u/s technician's knowledge of this more than my ped because they are more educated in u/s technology and such. My son is my ped first cf baby so he had nothing to back up his claim. I still followed the advice of my ob and sought all the best information from all sources. Some information was too lax in the approach others too head strong. I found this group is very balanced with the knowledge of the parents here and the compassion that they have for the " newbies " to the group. With the knowledge that I have gained from the veterans of this group - thank you for sticking around and sharing- I was able to select an Ortho that was extremely knowledgeable and not afraid of a parent that asks WAY TOO MANY questions sometimes. The best advice that I can offer is to take in as much knowledge as possible and go with your mommie instincts. I was amazed at how quickly they kicked in after the birth of my 1st child. Our family's did this as well because they were worried about our feelings. Once you know what you are doing and where you are going, I am sure they will support you. You are very lucky to have the opportunity to go to Iowa. I only wish were had that chance! 11/19 jennlinmcl39 wrote: Thanks for all your replies! I guess I was just caught off guard that my ped wasn't more up to date on the cf issue. Now I'm hoping I won't have to fight her on treatment. I looked up the false positive rate for bilateral cf, and it is only like seven per cent or so. Given the ractions of my OB/GYNS, I get the feeling they know exactly what they saw! I have already e-mailed Dr. Ponseti twice, and he has been wonderful! DH and I both agree the only way we're NOT going this route is if the baby is born with absolutely, perfectly normal feet. Otherwise, we're off to Iowa after this little guys is born. I just wish my ped was a bit more supportive (and informed!). I sent my family info on the UofI clinic and the Ponsetti Method, and even they seem to think we're jumping the gun. Sigh. Guest guest
There is a false positive rate with the ultrasound. In our case we met with the Ortho beforehand to see what we were in for in case he was born with clubfeet. Why not get the most information you can. It is hard enough caring for a newborn, no need to be searching for an MD after the fact. You have time now, just be prepared. Don't let any MD pressure you into anything. You as a mother know what is right. Good luck! nne August 04/04 Leif 09/05 BCF Brace 23/7 > > > > > > Hello all! > > > > > > I have been lurking for a couple of weeks now, and chatting with > > > ee via e-mail.
