So, you can still notice the bracy at 85 percent? Wow - we have no chance of getting near there. I honestly had told myself that I'd be thrilled if we could get down to 90 percent.

, mom to 17 months 3 weeks

almost 13 weeks in STARband plus CST

Edgewood, MD Re: Please help- 2nd band or not???

Hi , My daughter wore a starband for 5 mo and graduated at 10 mo old. Herhead went from 96 to 85%. At 14 mo we did a follow up and her head wasthe same - she had grown but it was all over so both length and widthincrease and her head hadn't improved any. I still notice her brachyand she is 3 yrs old now. Others won't notice it unless they arehyper-aware like me, but I still wish it wasn't there. She definitelyhas extra width and this hasn't improve even though she's been out ofher band over 2 years. I think if you're not happy with his head now,do a second band. Otherwise you'll always be questioning yourself. Ourspecialist (cranio facial plastic surgeon) recommends getting below90% if at all possible. So based on that I would also recommend a 2ndband. To be honest most peds aren't very experience with plagio/brachyand trusting them when they say "it will round out" can be a mistake.-christinesydney, 3 yrs, starband grad>> > > I wanted to see if I could get your opinion, my son has Brachy andwe had our progress visit last week at CT and we have about 1-2 weeksleft in the band. She told us at this point we could go either way andnot go wrong with either being done or getting a second band. She toldus if we got a 2nd band he would be in it for about 3 months and haveabout 1 cm of growth- I asked her if we would notice that to the eyeand she told us not really. He started at 96.0 and is now 96.1 (Butthe standard deviation based on age went from 4.46 to 2.75) so we areabout 2 standard deviations away from normal. We have had 2 CM ofgrowth in 6 weeks we started at 40.8 and are at 42.7. His CranialVault Asymmetry went from 7 to 5. > > She told us to take off the helmet for a few hours each day and seewhat we think- can we live with it ect.. We did that and I keeplooking at other kids heads and at the end of the day his head willnever be perfect. I had to take him to the doctors for a cold onFriday and I had the print out of before and after pics andmeasurements and showed them to the doctor (we saw a different doc inthe group than our Primary doc) and he took one look and told us notto do the 2nd band- he told us he has only ever had one person do 2bands and that now that he was rolling ect- the rest would grow outand he looks normal- told us to take that $ and put it in a collegefund.. ha ha but I wanted to see what you think. I can not figure outhow to upload the pics- any help let me know.> > Do you think we should do a second band? He is only 6 months old. Iwant to do the very best for him but with the CT doc telling us wecould not go wrong either way- we are fine. Please let me know yourthoughts and if anyone else could have done a 2nd band and did not? Weare hoping he has more growth this week too and that will help (heonly had 1 mm last week).> > Thanks > > Mom to Aidan 6 months and in DOC band for 6 weeks>
