Hi folks,

It's been awhile since I've followed the low carb way. I went out and

bought a bunch of Atkins/keto products today and noticed them

refering to " non impact carbs " . How many of you have used these

products and been OK with them? Things like Atkins Ice cream and

breads make me leary...it wasn't around when I first did Atkins..Do

you really only count the " impact " carbs? Also I have a few other

questions about maintaining and loosing weight the low carb way:

How many carbs would you limit yourself to in order to loose?

Maintain? I did around 40g today. I only counted the impact carbs. I

know back before surgery when I followed Atkins I'd try (TRY) to stay

around 30, but found it very difficult. Also, I would actually like

to loose about 15 more pounds.

What kind of limitation should I put on the protein bars? I had 2

today plus a low carb snack bar....is that too much? In addition to

cheese/steak/nuts/green veggies/jerky(so it wasn't the only thing I

ate).

Do you also watch your caloric intake? Fat? What kind of limitations

do you impose on yourself, if any?

Are Crystal light, diet cola, Splenda OK things to have?

Are there any places online that briefly outline low carb information?

I did pretty good today. I feel good tonight...I'm a carb addict and

have been spiraling out of control and tonight is the first time in

quite a few weeks I'm feeling hopeful that I can get a grip on this

weight thing. I also have reactive hypoglycemia (since surgery) and

horrible acid reflux. I'm hoping to control these conditions eating

higher protein and moderate carb (I can't get too low or I'll swing

the pendulum back towards high carb...I know me enough to not even

try it)

Any inpute would be greatly appreciated. I'm still trying to get used

to navigating myself through the board. Thank you.

Kim, I don't mean to scare you, but have you been transected and, if

not, have you been checked for a staple line disruption? You're

doing fantastic with your weight, but you shouldn't be having acid

reflux...heartburn can happen, but acid shouldn't be backing up into

your esophagus unless there's an opening from the old stomach into

the pouch. Anyone else know a reason this could happen, other than a

SLD or fistula? Maybe I'm missing something (sure wouldn't be the

first time:))

I don't do protein bars at all. Period. The amount of protein you get for the

number of calories and carbs just isn't worth it, in my estimation. I do 4

protein shakes a day, 30g protein each. There are 6g carbs in each (and there

are some shakes out there even lower--I just can't stand the taste of any but

the one I do) and 155 calories. In a typical protein bar, you'd get half the

protein grams and double the calories and 3 to 4 times the carbs -- or more. So

if you're concerned about controlling your carb intake, swear off the protein

bars and switch to shakes. JIMHO.
