Guest guest
I'm in the midst of being wired shut, almost 2 weeks now but my OS said 6-8 weeks for me depending on how I heal. Good luck with your journey! Jo
Guest guest
You do not need to assume that you will be wired shut, this was once the standard practice for all jaw surgeries but is now dependent on things like bone structure, complexity of the surgery, etc. My impression is that a large percentage of cases use splints and heavy bands rather than wiring shut. In either case you are definitely not going to be eating steak or crunchy candy for roughly six to eight weeks following surgery. Make sure your blender is in good working order as you will be using it a lot. But definitely ask your surgeon whether you will be wired or utilize other methods as you need to be mentally prepared for the recovery period. > > I am curious how long I should expect to have my mouth wired shut > after surgery? It was my understanding it would only be about a week > but it sounds like some of you are saying it is longer.
