Guest guest
Just when we thought he was fine (after bouts of boredom and stomach bug), put back in summer school where the new recreation plan was to take him to a local high school pool three times weekly. We'd been notified prior to summer school's beginning that he might not receive OT and PT. We followed-up on this, but now, with only two days of school left; and our having requested a hearing (bypassing the mediation stage), PT has been offered during the two weeks he's off school in the afternoon at a time when he'll probably do little or nothing for a therapist. As if that wasn't enough, came down with his first ear infection since having new tubes, tonsils and adenoids removed last July and was treated with Cefzil. This began during the second week of school and he was out probably a total of three or four days with this--in attack mode--developed a yeast rash on his bottom which had also to be treated with Lotrimin and Zinc oxide paste. During this time we tried not to waiver from his GF diet although, feeling sorry for him last weekend, did give him a few bites of pizza--boy, oh boy, did we pay for that with hair-pulling, biting, scratching, and the like on Sat. and Sun. By Monday, now the last week of school upon us, we sent back determined that if he didn't have a fever, wasn't attacking, having diarrhea or other signs of serious problems, he was going to be there to give us a break. Mind you during this ear infection course, he has not slept through the night since we can remember. Oh, the joys of being the parents of an autistic child!! Needless to say, when times are tough, they are really tough, but when they're better, they're grand!! Thank God for that.
