Can anyone tell me if they have a common channel of this length? I am hoping I am not going to have to go back and have another operation. I am so disapointed. I actually brought this up in my consult, I asked him how long he made the common channel he said he decided once he was he was actully in the operation. I am a revision from a failed VBG, I can't even think about another failed weight loss surgery!! >> Renae: You didn't mention your starting bmi or how much you need to lose? But, 75 lbs in 7 months isn't terrible (depending on how much you need to ultimately lose). I think it is slower than many experience, though. I think I was down about 80=85 lbs by the 7 month mark (my common channel is 100 cm). It is not as common to have a common channel past 100 cm, though --- That is a kind of 'standard' that is usually revised downwards if the patient needs to lose more weight, etc. When I asked about this (the possibility of extending my common channel length past 100 cm because I had spastic colon/ibs and thought it might help the condition), my surgeon said that extending the common channel would not affect the spastic colon but WOULD slow weight loss down. I think you definately have a right to be concerned. 125 is very conservative, especially for a revision patient (I think revision post-ops usually lose slower anyway?). The only other person I know of who had a long common channel (over 100 cm) is Joy Frost. She experienced problems losing weight and did get a revision. I'm not sure if she posts on this list frequently but I'm sure she'll respond to you if she does see your post. All the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. Gagner/Mt. Guest guest
Renae, What is your height ? Basically at 6 mths post-op, on average you want to lose 50% of your excess weight. What is your goal weight ? Your intestines could have been longer than normal, hence the slightly longer common channel. It sounds like you're on track with your weight loss though! If you wanted to get to 130 lbs, that's only 40 lbs more to goal and you're only 7 months out..your weight loss will slow the further out you get, but given your weight now, I don't see why you wouldn't reach this goal within the 12-24 month window. Guest guest
My starting BMI was 44. I am 5'4 " and now am at a BMI of 29. I am just so worried about gaining the weight back! I guess it's a fear harbored by most failed VBG people. I REALLY want to be 120lbs, I am hoping that is possible, now it seems not to likely. >From: ruisha@... >Reply-To: duodenalswitch >To: duodenalswitch >Subject: Re: I am so upset >Date: Tue, 2 Oct 2001 08:24:53 EDT > > >In a message dated 10/2/01 7:07:26 AM, duodenalswitch >writes: > ><< I found out today that the length of my common channel is 125 CM.
