Guest guest
Could you do a home program? We had to get legal help to get the program that was most appropriate for our daughter. She gets 15 hours per week of 1:1 ABA at home. During that time her younger sister is included in " circle " time for socialization. She also gets 2 hours per week of OT in a clinic...I take her. Again, they include her sister and both girls love it! We pay for 1 hour/week of speech therapy and she gets three 30min. speech sessions through the school district....I stay with her for that. We also enrolled her in a community based pre-school we liked...ours happens to be Christian but many parents love Montessori. Anyway she gets a 1:1 shadow aid for the 9 hours per week of school. We hired the aids so feel much more comfortable sending her to school. Well, I take her and pick her up. I wouldn't recommend waiting...the best results happen with early intervention. Good luck! I relate to not wanting to send your child to school. Many people on this list homeschool...they'll have good resources for you too. Guest guest
Helene, I don't know if I will be of much help, but I have twins (boy/girl), and my son (PDD-NOS) just started a PPCD class this week. My twins just turned 3yrs old at the end of July. Neither of them have been in daycare ever, I've been home with them since they were born. I am going to put my daughter in a part-time daycare in Sept. I think she needs to be around kids who are also NT. It wasn't so hard on either of them this week (I'm holding up pretty good, too), as my son has been in the ECI program (they came to our house) for about 1-1/2 yrs, 4 therapist a week, plus the college students that I use for respite kept the whole house busy. But, I always explained that they/we were teaching her brother how to talk (she chose to go into a lot of the therapies, too). What little kid could resist all those toys these people lugged in day after day ) Anyway, I think that helped her this week as her brother started school...I just kept explaining that this new school was for the new teachers to teach her " bubba " how to talk. She seems to be " getting it " . I am spending as much time with her as I can for the rest of the month because I definitely think she needs some " just mommy and daughter time. " She was thrilled that just she and mommy got to go to " wally world " (Wal-Mart), as she calls it, today. Just the two of us. I have started to prepare her for when she gets to go to daycare (calling it school for her) in September, so she will have that experience, too. I know it's tough thinking about they won't be going at the same time to the same class....but I choose to have hope that the PPCD class will help my son to recover along with all the other interventions that we are doing (GF/CF diet, ABA, chelation - going great by the way), and that maybe next year, we won't be facing this. Write me off list if you would like to. Just wanted you to know, I think I understand what you are feeling. Hang in there.
