We went with a 2nd band - we used Hanger.

The reason I wanted to do a 2nd band is because I didn't want to regret NOT doing all I could, while I could. My dd has a facial asym and I was really hoping to fix it. Her plagio was mild/mod based on #'s but I could SEE it and it was not ok with me.

Most said they didn't see it - but I did and so I wanted to do all I could.

Ultimatley, it's a personal thing. If you can live with your sons head the way it is now then don;t band - But if you feel like you wish it were better then go for it. The timing on correction only lasts so long. If you are ever going to do it, now is the time.

Please help- 2nd band or not???

I wanted to see if I could get your opinion, my son has Brachy and we had our progress visit last week at CT and we have about 1-2 weeks left in the band. She told us at this point we could go either way and not go wrong with either being done or getting a second band. She told us if we got a 2nd band he would be in it for about 3 months and have about 1 cm of growth- I asked her if we would notice that to the eye and she told us not really. He started at 96.0 and is now 96.1 (But the standard deviation based on age went from 4.46 to 2.75) so we are about 2 standard deviations away from normal. We have had 2 CM of growth in 6 weeks we started at 40.8 and are at 42.7. His Cranial Vault Asymmetry went from 7 to 5.

She told us to take off the helmet for a few hours each day and see what we think- can we live with it ect.. We did that and I keep looking at other kids heads and at the end of the day his head will never be perfect. I had to take him to the doctors for a cold on Friday and I had the print out of before and after pics and measurements and showed them to the doctor (we saw a different doc in the group than our Primary doc) and he took one look and told us not to do the 2nd band- he told us he has only ever had one person do 2 bands and that now that he was rolling ect- the rest would grow out and he looks normal- told us to take that $ and put it in a college fund.. ha ha but I wanted to see what you think. I can not figure out how to upload the pics- any help let me know.

Do you think we should do a second band? He is only 6 months old. I want to do the very best for him but with the CT doc telling us we could not go wrong either way- we are fine. Please let me know your thoughts and if anyone else could have done a 2nd band and did not? We are hoping he has more growth this week too and that will help (he only had 1 mm last week).

Thanks

If you send me the pictures, I'd be more than happy to upload them for you.

As for what the pediatrician said, most pediatricians are against banding and/or don't know much about it. I had to fight so many peds to finally get a prescription for my daughter to get her banded. I personally wouldn't listen to their opinion about this.

My daughter has brachy too. Her plagio got resolved with the first band. She is much older than your son, yet, we decided to go for a second band to help her get below the 90% mark. If she grows another 1cm in the back, I would be thrilled. At her last scan with the star scanner, her CI was at 93.2%. I think she's improved since but still expect more from the second band.

Given the age of your son and his actual CI, I wouldn't hesitate one minute to band him again. This is your one time chance to do it and in three months, his head will be growing. If he is banded, the growth will be redirected where it needs to go. If not, his headshape will simply grow all around.

I also want to add that my daughter grew 3.5cm between 5.5 and 9 months of age. Had she been in the correct band at that time, her brachy would have been history. Just one more thing to think about...
