Guest guest
Hi , My daughter wore a starband for 5 mo and graduated at 10 mo old. Her head went from 96 to 85%. At 14 mo we did a follow up and her head was the same - she had grown but it was all over so both length and width increase and her head hadn't improved any. I still notice her brachy and she is 3 yrs old now. Others won't notice it unless they are hyper-aware like me, but I still wish it wasn't there. She definitely has extra width and this hasn't improve even though she's been out of her band over 2 years. I think if you're not happy with his head now, do a second band. Otherwise you'll always be questioning yourself. Our specialist (cranio facial plastic surgeon) recommends getting below 90% if at all possible. So based on that I would also recommend a 2nd band. To be honest most peds aren't very experience with plagio/brachy and trusting them when they say " it will round out " can be a mistake. -christine sydney, 3 yrs, starband grad > > > > I wanted to see if I could get your opinion, my son has Brachy and we had our progress visit last week at CT and we have about 1-2 weeks left in the band. She told us at this point we could go either way and not go wrong with either being done or getting a second band. She told us if we got a 2nd band he would be in it for about 3 months and have about 1 cm of growth- I asked her if we would notice that to the eye and she told us not really. He started at 96.0 and is now 96.1 (But the standard deviation based on age went from 4.46 to 2.75) so we are about 2 standard deviations away from normal. We have had 2 CM of growth in 6 weeks we started at 40.8 and are at 42.7. His Cranial Vault Asymmetry went from 7 to 5. > > She told us to take off the helmet for a few hours each day and see what we think- can we live with it ect.. We did that and I keep looking at other kids heads and at the end of the day his head will never be perfect. I had to take him to the doctors for a cold on Friday and I had the print out of before and after pics and measurements and showed them to the doctor (we saw a different doc in the group than our Primary doc) and he took one look and told us not to do the 2nd band- he told us he has only ever had one person do 2 bands and that now that he was rolling ect- the rest would grow out and he looks normal- told us to take that $ and put it in a college fund.. ha ha but I wanted to see what you think. I can not figure out how to upload the pics- any help let me know. > > Do you think we should do a second band? He is only 6 months old. I want to do the very best for him but with the CT doc telling us we could not go wrong either way- we are fine. Please let me know your thoughts and if anyone else could have done a 2nd band and did not? We are hoping he has more growth this week too and that will help (he only had 1 mm last week). > > Thanks > > Mom to Aidan 6 months and in DOC band for 6 weeks >
