Been a while since I wrote and introduced myself but I have been

still researching and reading all your posts (ty for all the great

info) but the upseting thing that happened is this: my diabetes Dr

is the one who suggested that I look into wls about 4 months ago, I

had been thinking about it before then but she brought up the

subject. Since then I have read books, been on line, chatted w/some

individuals and met a number of people who have had surgery and

questioned them. Today I had my check up w/the diabetes Dr and now

she says it scares her to think that I would have that done! I

said " What? YOU are the one that suggested it in the first place "

Her comment was....ready for this one?.... " oh I just use that as a

scare tactic for my patients, so that they will keep eating right and

do the best they can, most are not as compliant as you and it

usually works to keep them doing better " I could not believe it!

Hours and hours of researching this, I actually have my consult

w/the surgeon in 2 days and she is now saying she really doesnt like

to have people do this. She was the one I was counting on for a

great letter for the insurance company. Her thoughts are that there

is not enough long term research on this to know what happens 20-30

years later, if I dont have this then I dont think I have 20-30

years left! Is anyone here long term? And what are some of the

problems that have come up maybe 5,10 or even more years, down the

road? She believes there may be a correlation between this surgery

and osteoporosis, does anyone that has had wls or know of someone

that has, developed osteoporosis since the surgery? I would think

that it would be long time down the road to develop it but I dont

know. My thoughts are this....get rid of the diabetes, high blood

pressure, high cholestrol and the meds that go along with it, and

worry about what may or may not happen 20-30 years from now when you

get there lol...may be a bad way to look at it but I really feel

like we need to get priorities straight. I would rather have the

osteoporosis than all the other things. I dont know what is going

to happen now, she said go to the consult (which I was NOT going to

cancel anyway) but not to commit yet. Not sure what else she wants

me to try. I eat between 1300-1500 calories a day, carb content is

about 30 for breakfast and 30 for lunch, 50 at dinner. these are

the amounts my dietician gave me 2 years ago when i went on

insulin. I work very hard and staying on the " straight and narrow "

when it comes to eating so I dont think that part of the surgery

would be too hard. Anyway thank you all for letting me vent and if

you have any info you can share I would really appreciate it. Keep

the good info coming, and keep up the hard work. Congrats to all

you " losers " :) ps anyone can feel free to email me personally

if they want nlwood60@...
