Guest guest
Hi Tova, Yes, totally normal. Like you, I have a little face and it got HUGE too. I have pictures posted here in a file called " Maddie -- underbite. " Good times, especially day 3. I looked like a gorilla! Don't worry, it will resolve itself pretty dramatically in the next couple of days. I almost wish I still had a little swelling since I'm now back to my old thin face. Well, it's actually much improved from pre-op, but still ... > > I'm embarrassed to show my friends but was surprised by how HUGE my > little face got... > thought it might be of interest to you... > > http://homepage.mac.com/wlevin/tova-surgery/PhotoAlbum40.html > > Is this normal??? Guest guest
I had the exact same surgery: 5mm lower jaw advancement. Like you, i had massive swelling, which didn't start subside till about week 3!!! The good news is that it will subside... > > I'm embarrassed to show my friends but was surprised by how HUGE my > little face got... > thought it might be of interest to you... > > http://homepage.mac.com/wlevin/tova-surgery/PhotoAlbum40.html > > Is this normal??? Guest guest
nooooo!!! not week 3!!! I can't handle it... I'm a lot more shallow than all the people in this forum... i look in the mirror and want to cry! I look so ugly and my boyfriend is taking care of me and my face is like a football and my temples are killing me... this sucks. > > I had the exact same surgery: 5mm lower jaw advancement. > > Like you, i had massive swelling, which didn't start subside till > about week 3!!! > > The good news is that it will subside... > > > > > > > > > I'm embarrassed to show my friends but was surprised by how HUGE my > > little face got... > > thought it might be of interest to you... > > > > http://homepage.mac.com/wlevin/tova-surgery/PhotoAlbum40.html > > > > Is this normal??? Guest guest
You don't look ugly at all. You look like you're recovering from surgery! Lighten up on yourself, and know that how long what takes is different for almost every patient. Some folks have found that Arnica (a health food type product, available in pills or in cream) has helped with swelling. Another thing some folks have found helpful is Bromelain. (I'd check with my surgeon's office before using either of them. Not that I think they're scary, but that some surgeons don't want you taking things they're not familiar with.) Another good suggestion is to be sure you're getting plenty of fluids, water in particular. That helps flush out whatever is causing the swelling. And some people have had good results from manual lymph drainage. If you go that route, you want a masseuse or masseur who's trained at the Vodder school, if you can get one. And if you can do a steamy bath or shower, that may help, too. (Just be sure there's someone nearby, so you don't get woozy and slip and fall. (That means don't lock the door when you go in the bathroom to take the shower. A better idea would be to have whoever sit in there with you while you're doing it, just in case.) Good luck. And as I said, lighten up on yourself. You're recovering, not ugly! cammie
Guest guest
Like Cammie said, Tova, everyone's experience is different. You might not be swollen for three weeks. My doctor urged me to start walking as soon as possible to help the swelling go down. She also told me that eating, drinking, and talking would help, too. If you're uncomfortable going out in public right now, take your walks at night. That's what I did! I know it sucks right now, but it will get better. > > > > > > I'm embarrassed to show my friends but was surprised by how HUGE my > > > little face got... > > > thought it might be of interest to you... > > > > > > http://homepage.mac.com/wlevin/tova-surgery/PhotoAlbum40.html > > > > > > Is this normal???
