But, these days docs are so afraid of getting sued they no longer play the percentages, which can be a good thing or a bad thing. I was willing to have by-pass surgery even though it is so dangerous because my staying MO was also dangerous. I am not willing to have reconstructive surgery, because not having it is safer than having it. I am willing to take Vioxx, because becoming sedentary and depressed is more dangerous (to me) than the possibility of an ulcer. Many, many post ops get these ulcers without taking nsaids. So many so that I am not sure it is just the Vioxx. I don't believe that the lady in the story could possibly have had so many problems because of Vioxx. It is easier to blame the Vioxx than the surgery or what not. I am not trying to blindly justify the Vioxx use, I am just trying to evaluate the facts.
