I wonder whether the docs would be so " careful " if we weren't in such

litigious times. Nothing we eat or do is safe. But, these days docs are so

afraid of getting sued they no longer play the percentages, which can be a

good thing or a bad thing. I was willing to have by-pass surgery even though

it is so dangerous because my staying MO was also dangerous. I am not

willing to have reconstructive surgery, because not having it is safer than

having it. I am willing to take Vioxx, because becoming sedentary and

depressed is more dangerous (to me) than the possibility of an ulcer. Many,

many post ops get these ulcers without taking nsaids. So many so that I am

not sure it is just the Vioxx. I don't believe that the lady in the story

could possibly have had so many problems because of Vioxx. It is easier to

blame the Vioxx than the surgery or what not. I am not trying to blindly

justify the Vioxx use, I am just trying to evaluate the facts.

My 2 cents
