Guest guest
Not sure if it matters how long you've been on SCD or not, but i've been on SCD about 8 months and I had to take antibiotics for strep throat all last week. It totally KILLED my insides. I knew it was going to happen and I was prepared for it. I loaded up on the prescriptions so I wouldn't have to run out and get them later. I only took the antibiotics for half the time of what they told me to and It worked just fine. Now, i'm on the recovery and it is twice as fast as the last time I went on antibiotics and wasn't on SCD. While I was taking the antibiotics I stopped taking any meds I was on (asacol) for my UC because it's worthless if the antibiotics are going to cause a big flare which they did. It was just wasting money,If you're anything like me, you'll have a bad flare from the antibiotics and once you can go off them you'll recover relatively quickly. I started drinking apple cider vinegar (about a shot glass worth) along with taking Oregano Oil and making alot of yogurt then drinking it plain (no honey or anything) throughout the day. I tried to get as much plain yogurt in me on an empty stomach as possible and eat a banana with it so i'm sending food for the bacteria down with them. (bananas are a Pre-Biotic aka bacteria food).I'm 4 days into no antibiotics and taking oregano oil, apple cider vinegar, and lots of yogurt on an empty stomach. I also tried the vitamin E enema thing but i'm iffy on if that's doing anything. I also went back on my full doses of meds ( 16 asacol pills a day and cort enemas at night) but I will taper off quickly once I get this flare under control which is already almost killed.I hope this makes sense... I kinda jumped around alot writing it because i'm in a hurry. Any other questions or if you need something explained better let me know!-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 7 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 5 pills a dayTo: ldnandibd ; btvc-scd From: gramenz0919@...Date: Sun, 31 Jan 2010 12:48:32 -0600Subject: OT Antibiotics I need some insight from others on SCD and since I also use LDN, thought I would post there too! So here is what's going on, I am looking at having a hysterectomy on 3/11 at Mayo Clinic. I have been having a low pelvic pain for about a year and was just diagnosed with an inflamed fallopian tube on the right side and an abscess. I am to take Flagyl and Levaquin for three weeks, then a three week break, then surgery. They were going to do surgery sooner but I have a trip to Vegas planned the last week of February and my doctor is in Haiti the last two weeks of February. Well, I have been on the antibiotics for a week and a couple days and my guts are so messed up. I am scared of putting myself into a Crohn's flare. Not sure what to do but if I go off the antibiotics, I will risk infection. I got a cold on Thursday and stopped taking the antibiotics for four doses because I was so drained. The pelvic pain returned and I started getting a low fever. I jumped back on the antibitoics but am so scared of what it is doing to my guts. I have gassy loose stools about two or three times a day. Guest guest
I don't think I can stop taking the antibiotics. I am not even sure if I will be able to go without them during the three weeks before surgery. So frustrating. I may have to do the surgery ahead of time and lose out of the Vegas trip. Thanks for your input. I am going to supplement with acidophilus and s.boullardii while I am on the antibiotics to try to help counteract the effects. Not sure what else to do. Thanks for the advice though, To: btvc-scd From: scdguy26@...Date: Sun, 31 Jan 2010 14:21:00 -0500Subject: RE: OT Antibiotics Not sure if it matters how long you've been on SCD or not, but i've been on SCD about 8 months and I had to take antibiotics for strep throat all last week.
