Guest guest
In October / November of last year I took Nystatin. My doctor felt that side-effects should be minimal, aside from the obvious effects of die-off, which are to be expected, and that the treatment should be safe with positive results. Unfortunately for me this was not the case. Within a few days of taking Nystatin my gut took a turn for the worse. Assuming that it was just from the die-off I continued to take it, and finished the prescription (which took about a month). I continued to struggle even after completing the prescription and eventually had my first UC flare in almost 2 years (since starting the diet) - which nearly ruined Christmas for me. To manage this I went back to the intro diet, and struggled to re-introduce foods that were once not a problem for me. While I have finally been able to go back to some of the foods that I was once managing without issue, I am still struggling - 3-4 months after taking Nystatin, and am still experiencing symptoms that I haven't had in almost 2 years. Hindsight is always 20/20, but I can say that if I could turn back time I would definitely not have taken the Nystatin. I'm sure others have taken it without issue, however I felt that I should at least chime in and let you know about my experience. We are going to put my daughter on it on Monday and I have such reservations (also Alinia), I want to do everything possible to avoid complications. I would like to hear about whether it has worked or not, and what I should look out for. > > She also has low iron, but I haven't started that supplement. Is that something you have heard should be done? The other post mentioned it. We also suspect a possible parasite (hence the Alinia). She has never tested positive for yeast but she has dysbiosis and she can not tolerate the higher carbs or fruit. > > Thank you! > Yolanda > SCD 12/08 family of 5 with multiple GI issues/allergies/etc >
