Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I'm ten days post-op from upper, lower and genio now, and I /had/ been recovering well. But on Thursday I was told that my midline is off and my bite isn't coming together properly so they're going to do a second operation this Wednesday. This time they're going to remove the plates from my lower jaw and 'fix' it by banding it very tightly to my upper jaw. They did this once in hospital last week, two days post-op I think, and I wasn't able to get the syringe in my mouth to eat, drink or take any of my painkillers. The nurses were no use - they didn't know what to do and just left me. Eventually I had a panic attack and a doctor had to cut the elastics off. And this seems like exactly what they're going to do to me again next week, only this time I'm going to be banded for six weeks. I am very frightened of not being able to drink, and all the surgeon said on Thursday was that there is a 'gap' somewhere down the side of my mouth where I will be able to squeeze in liquids, but I don't know what he means. I know other people get banded tightly, so you can survive, but I'm still frightened. Can anyone please tell me in some detail, how you eat (drink) when you're banded this tightly shut?
