Guest guest
e, Hi, I used to have some of the same feelings you are having about this surgery. But I must tell you that I have not regretted one single minute the decision I made to have it. Through lots of prayers and support from my parents and a few close friends I was able to have this experience of a new healthier life. I had my surgery 11 weeks ago today. Sometimes it seems longer ago than this and at other times it seems like yesterday. I researched for almost 2 years all that I could find and talked to as many WLS patients as I could, getting the pros and cons. To me there were so many more pros than cons. I too love food. Buffets were the best thing invented....lol. I never thought I would ever hear myself say I'm just not hungry. Believe me when I say that I would wake up feeling full and/or satisfied and would feel the same way throughout the day. I still have to force myself to eat and drink at times. I'm just honestly not hungry most of the time. But I do make sure I get in my protein daily and I try my darndest to get my liquids in. Most days I make it...lol. I might not be losing as fast as others but we are all different. I can say that at 11 weeks out I have gotten off all medication I was on prior to surgery. BP meds, Celebrex, stomach meds, antidepressants. Have also now gotten off my CPAP machine, thank the good Lord. I had been on it since 1997 and on the BP medicine since I was 30 years old, I'm 44 now. I have already gone down almost 2 sizes, depending on what it is. These milestones are just amazing to me. Oh and I've been able to move the seat up in my car when I drive, been able to cross my legs in church and to fit in a booth at a restaurant. All this in just 11 weeks. I can't wait to cross those other milestones in my future. e, pray about it and let the Lord guide you in making your decision. As I'm sure you know the Lord is always with us and will never steer us wrong. There are a great group of people here, people who support and encourage each other through the good and the bad. I for one am so glad I came across it in my searching gastric bypass sites. Sorry this is so long but just had to brag a little and encourage a prospective WLS and new groupie...lol Laurette 4/23/04 open RNY 309/290/252/150 St. Charity Cleveland, Ohio
Guest guest
Hello, I am concidering having the surgery but theres so much I need to know before I could even begin to try to make a decision. I am a 38 year old married woman from Atlanta Ga. I am a Minister. I weigh 230 and I am 5'3 I am tired of being heavy and can't seem to loose any other way. I have CFS so I dont have the energy to exercise for hours on end. I do go to the gym and try to maintain my weight. I love food, it's my only vice in life and although I don't eat to much I love trying different foods. I love to eat out, snack, and cook different things. I am diabetic and this is my biggest concern. I have heard so many things about the surgery that scare me. The fact that I will only be able to eat 6 ounces of food a day, may throw up all the time, feel hungry all the time concern me. Please any advise you can give me will be appreciated. Thanks so much. e http://profiles.yahoo.com/annyalioness His Humble Servant Minister K. A. Dodd http://profiles.yahoo.com/annyalioness His Humble Servant Minister K. A. Guest guest
Hi e, I'm in Atlanta as well, had my surgery April 9th at Northside Hospital. Yes, there are A LOT of things to consider when having weight loss surgery. I can tell you that the concerns you mentioned (6 oz., throwing up, and feeling hungry) aren't the norm and don't tend to be of great concern after surgery, though there are people that run the gamut of issues post-surgery. Generally, you're looking at being able to eat between 2-4 oz. of food per meal after you begin solid foods and until you begin to increase that amount, after about a year you're looking at being able to handle upwards of 6 oz. However, (and this is a big however) you will not tend to be hungry and with that small amount of food you will be full and satisfied. I know that now at 3 mos. out I don't tend to have the sense of hunger I once had and I concentrate more and more on using water rather than food to fill the hunger, which it now does quite well. I too am a big cook and continue to do so for myself and my husband, I just don't tend to nibble while cooking or I end up eating my dinner in the kitchen, which is a big no-no . I guess that's a good start, welcome to the board, everyonbe's very friendly here and will certainly help anyway they can. If you go back to the main page of this group and click on Files in the left hand menu there are a number of documents there that you may find useful and obesityhelp.com is a great site to find a lot of information.
