Guest guest
Hi Marcy, Congratulations on reaching this milestone in Ethan's treatment )! As Angel said tons of babies, most babies I think (that do not have Complex/Atypical), do just fine in the Markell's. Remember, this is a support group so I am sure that lots and lots of parents of cf children who have had no issues in the Markells haven't even ventured here (too bad for them though ). Our daughter did fine, no problems thanks in part to our ortho who cut out a hole in the heel of our shoes so we could make sure her heel was all the way down. And Kori, for her awesome tips and tricks doc.! This was just such a help for us. I think it should be sent to all the doctors practicing the method for their patients! Not sure if you have the adjustable bar but I found it much easier when first putting the shoes on her to unscrew the shoes from the bar, put them on her, then slide the bar through the slots and screw them back on (only had to do this a few times to get comfortable but it really helped). Ethan should really be fine, as long as you are getting his heel right down in the shoes and doing them up really tight. We also just gave Grace her hour out all at once, I was so worried about getting those darned shoes on her correctly that once was plenty LOL! I did also remove them for about 5 min in the morning for the first few days to make sure everything looked OK. I figured, if she was going to get blisters, it would happen pretty quickly. I also did the same thing for her second pair of size 1 shoes. For her latest pair, I didn't even bother...does that make me an " old pro " now hehe?? Like the pro part, not the old part so much lol. As far as adjusting the socks...I am pretty sure Kori has that in her tips and tricks, you just pull the ends of the socks once the shoes are done up so that there is some extra room for those cute lil toes. Guest guest
Hi Marcy, > Does anyone have any success with the Markell > shoes with no blisters? My son Alister has been wearing the Markell shoes for over 3 years now and never had a problem with them. Actually, I just remembered, he had a small blister once but I simply put a band-aid over it and it disappeared after a couple of days. I don't think he even noticed since he didn't cry because of it at all. > Also, this may seem like a dumb question, but I > know that we're only supposed to take off the shoes > for an hour a day. Do people only take them off > once per day and leave them on the entire rest of > the day? Does anyone take them off any other part > of the day to check the feet or arrange the sock? I only took them off the once per day and usually not even for the whole hour, just long enough for a bath and new socks... All the best, with (3y) and Alister (3y, RCF, Ponseti method, UK) ___________________________________________________________ To help you stay safe and secure online, we've developed the all new Yahoo! Guest guest
My daughter Kelsey has been in her Markells now for one year and has never had a single blister. We did leave them on for 23 hours and would take them off only if she seemed to be uncomforatble or something. Otherwise what worked for us was to take them off of her so she could play for a while in the evening and then give her a bath, put the shoes back on with her pajamas and bedtime. I think always putting them on with her pajamas really helped us because now that she is down to nights only, she never questions that the shoes go on. To her, they are a regular part of her pajamas. Even if she does fuss about them (which she does occasionally), we have never given in to her about not wearing them. I think that is really important for success. There is a DBB tricks/tips document that I think may be in the file section of the group. Hopefully, someone can point you in the right direction. Good luck with Ethan's Markells.
