Guest guest
Halley, While I have no idea what the sacral dimple is, I can offer you some moral support. My son was born in August and our ortho noted a simian crease (a line that goes straight across his palm) on his right hand. I too have this line. The ortho said that it was probably fine, but could be a marker for genetic disorders. (one week postpartum and all that registered was marker for genetic disorders). So I went on the internet and cried for days, as only 1 percent of the population has this line on both hands (which we quickly realized my son has the line on both) with no genetic disorder. My husband made me promise I would stop going on the internet. I respected that, however that was how I became so far behind the eight ball regarding his club foot treatment. We had genetic testing done and Logan is fine. What we are now finding out is both my brothers have the line, as do many family members on my father's side. No one had ever told any of us this line was of any significance. My point to all this is while everyone will tell you not to worry, you will anyways. The pediatrician and my OB both stated that the crease is hereditary and were upset that the ortho had me so worried. And when your postpartum hormones are kicking it doesn't help. Get whatever testing can be done as soon as you can so you can have piece of mind. I know what you are going through and hope things work out for your daughter. sacral dimple question Hello, Our daughter, Keira, was born on Dec 4 with a right clubfoot. Like my mom and my 16-month old son, she has a sacral dimple (a dimple just above her anus). The pediatrician in the hospital as well as our family doctor who checked her basically just said to keep it clean and of course they check that it has an ending and is not open. Our orthopedic doctor who began treating her clubfoot last week said that he wants to do an MRI at some point (like when she is 2). Now I am worried about things like tethered spinal cords after looking on the internet. I am going to ask him why not just do an ultrasound or MRI now rather than wait and also, why nothing has ever been made of my son having it (who is doing great) and why the pediatrician didn't also suggest this. The dimple is right in her intergluteal crease and I've read that this is quite common and that when they are in the crease they usually don't suggest anything problematic. Does anyone know anything about this? Also, we had a very detailed ultrasound by a perinatologist at 20 weeks and they didn't see any problems with her spine or anything. I remember some posts quite a while ago about sacral dimples and didn't really focus on them too much. Do any of your babies/children have these and did they suggest an MRI or ultrasound? Sorry, I know I am a worrier. My husband thinks he ought to take the internet away! I am just praying that everything else, besides her little clubfoot, is normal. Thanks, Halley
Guest guest
Kelsey's first ortho did an ultrasound of her lumbar spine because of her dimple but he found nothing. He did it as a precaution since clubfoot can be associated with spina bifida and he just wanted to make sure there was no problem. He also did an ultrasound of her hips to eliminate hip dysplasia as a concern as well. None of our doctors (peds in NICU, GP, clubfoot docs) even mentioned it (and they can't have missed it) and they certainly didn't do any tests regarding it so I guess it must be quite common (I never asked them about it either). Hope this helps at all, with (3y) and Alister (3y, RCF, Ponseti method, UK) --- Halley Prestage wrote: > Hello, > > Our daughter, Keira, was born on Dec 4 with a right > clubfoot.
