Hi

Just thought I'd check out posts after a while.

I had upper and lower last April at the Royal Surrey under

. All went well although I till have altered sensation

lower lip and chin. They still keep telling me it is early days yet!

Do you have an ortho yet in Guildford?

Like you I had to pay for that part but had the surgery on NHS.

As to managing on your own I would say that it is a good idea to

have the stay in hospital for the first few days - I think I was in

for 4 days. You really don't feel up to much then. When you come

out the good thing is you are not physically incapacitated such as

with other surgeries. At least you can move about etc. I found I

needed to keep on top of the pain with regular painkillers, the

worst time being at night when I couldn't sleep and would just creep

down stairs to listen to Classic FM in a cosy armchair with lots of

pillows. Just be prepared to forget about any housework and just

look after yourself and of course, don't forget to eat!

Best regards

Sue
