Guest guest
Personally, I think that being pregnant and going through braces and jaw surgery is a lot to take on. I was VERY sick my first trimester of my pregnancies and would not want have wanted braces or recovery from jaw surgery at the same time. That is one reason I have waited so long to do the surgery. But, on the other hand, you may be lucky and not be sick at all and deal with all of it just fine. I think it depends on your personality as to what you think you can handle. Having your first child comes with a lot of adjustments to your life. Only you know if you are ready for all this at once. Just my .02 > > Hi everyone...I need some advice from the moms out there (and dads, > if you have an opinion) who have had their surgery. Guest guest
Hi, I was in a similar situation as yours. I already had my braces when my husband and I decided it was time to start having babies. I was 33 so I didn't want to put off having kids any longer. There was never a problem having braces and being pregnant at the same time. By the time I was ready for surgery, I was pregnant with my second daughter. My ortho just hard-wired my teeth so they wouldn't move and they stayed like that for 1 1/2 years. My surgeon wouldn't do the surgery until my daughter was a year old because I was breastfeeding. We didn't want to take the chance that I wouldn't be able to go back to breastfeeding after the surgery. For me, it was definitely the right choice. Because of complications with my joints, I've now had 5 surgeries and will have my sixth one soon. I've been in braces for 9 years now. If I had waited to be done with the surgeries, I'd be over 40 before we even could try to get pregnant. It is a little more difficult to recover if you have little ones in the house. My husband is a stay at home dad so that helped a lot. My parents also live nearby and I couldn't have gotten through all of this without them. It would be extremely difficult to take care of a newborn if you didn't have any help for the first 3-4 weeks post-op. After that, it wouldn't be too bad but I was always (and still am) very paranoid about the inevitable head butts to the face you get holding a young child. Good luck with whatever you decide. > > Hi everyone...I need some advice from the moms out there (and dads, > if you have an opinion) who have had their surgery. Guest guest
Hi There, i was in braces for the second time in my life, at the age of 38, and with several delays, which were of MAJOR annoyance to me, i heard the good words, I WAS READY FOR SURGERY, on a thursday and saturday took a pregnancy test and was pregnant. OH MY GOSH, the two major worlds of mine collided. Off came the braces, i was held in place with retainers (braces came off so i could have optimum oral hygiene). I delivered my daughter in Sept and because i am a teacher, planned for a summer surgery. i got my braces back in in Feb, daughter was 5 months old and had my surgery this past June. Grace was 10 months old. Unfortunately, i also got divorced and was parenting alone with a young daughter and had this major surgery. it was possible, worked out really well with help from family and i got coverage also from the Visiting Nurse Assoc for 4 hours of child care a day for 5 weeks! You can do it, which ever way it works out. good luck. > > Hi everyone...I need some advice from the moms out there (and dads, > if you have an opinion) who have had their surgery. Guest guest
good for you! I just want to say that for sticking it out. It is hard enough going through this surgery, but good for yo gor being able to do it with the support of your family. You are a true inspiration for moms out there to get the surgery. I feel like such a woose. bethanne > > > > Hi everyone...I need some advice from the moms out there (and > dads, > > if you have an opinion) who have had their surgery.
