Austin did good for the first 3 months that he was in the DBB, now he

is starting to slip out his right shoe. We can't make it any tighter or

he starts screaming... What can we do? I know this is probably a common

problem but we need some suggestions... Thanks

We use 2 pairs of socks when Mason starts pulling his foot out. One

that is cotton and thin and then a thick sock over it (terry or slipper

socks work well for us).Good luck!

bar too short?

Shoe too small?

Is the strap in the lower slots? if not, try that.

his heel isn't lifting after you tighten the strap is it? Pull on

the heel after you tighten to be sure. If it is, the strap is too

loose. He MAY (note, may...) be screaming just because it's tighter

and he's not used to it. Can you try tightening it and seeing how

long he tolerates it? Make sure you're pushing the heel very deep

into the shoe, and dorsiflex the foot at the same time. The straps

do stretch some after time.

Have you stood him on his feet to check to see that it's still nice

and flat on the floor and not rolling or turning?

hummm.... let us know how it goes.

oh, I forgot... you can also try tightening the strap *too tight*

and then lacing as tightly as possible, and then some. Make sure the

ankle is super tight. Then loosen the strap back to the looser

hole. That may keep him tight all over the foot, but not quite as

tight at the strap. May or may not work, something to experiment with though.

Aidan also started pulling his left foot out, every morning. You might want to

take him back to the Ortho to put a wedge in the back of the shoe to help hold

down the heel. Also try taking out the touge all together. Be careful with

double socks. If the foot gets to hot or sweaty it can actually start to swell.

Then his shoes definitely won't be comfortable.

The Ortho also told us that his foot (we just got new shoes) was too wide for

the shoe and was pushing the sides out easily (even thought we thought we

strapped those suckers down as tight as possible) allowing him to pull that foot

out. Sometimes he yells at us when we tighten it down but I think he does more

out of frustration because he can't pull his foot out anymore. Good luck. I'm

sure our days of foot pulling out of shoes isn't over but so far so good.

There is always duck tape! :-)

I think one of the big problems is that he just gets so much leverage when he

tries to crawl and can't..... I think when he can crawl it will be less force...

Maybe I am just hoping....hes not too far away from crawling.....

Do people actually use duct tape? How would that work??? I think we may be to

that point almost.
