FYI-The company information and product number for the adjustable

red bar from Fillauer is in the files section under the bracing

folder. It's in the documents from Hall, orthotist from

Iowa City.

as to the where-you can check with your insurance company and see

who is on their list of approved " orthotists " or check your local

hospital out-they may have an orthotist on staff who can order the

stuff for you-if you can't order directly from markell!

Thanks for the advice! I have checked with my insurance, and to make a long

story short,

I'm more aggravated with our current doc than I was before!! I actually called

Dr Ponseti's

office to ask their advice. is still in his post tenotomy cast (been

about 2.5 weeks

now) and no one wants to measure him since they can only measure the non-casted

foot.

Makes sense, but leaves us in a problem come time for his cast to come off. I

know that

all in all 7-10 days is no big deal, but it is to us now that we know we could

have been

done with all the casting business weeks and weeks ago had we known fully about

Ponseti!! Anyway, our doctor probably should have measured his little foot

after the

tenotomy and prior to putting the cast on, but didn't. Now no one wants to take

the

chance that the measured non-club foot will not be the same size as the club

foot.

, Dr Ponseti's nurse spoke with me today and was willing to get us in

tomorrow to

see the doctor, but I opted not to run out yet. I'm not sure what we'll end up

doing, but

the good doctor is supposed to call me tomorrow to discuss options. My gut

tells me that

we'll end up in Iowa City earlier than planned to have the Doctor remove the

cast and fit

him into the shoes and bar. I CANNOT wait!!!

Anyway, does anyone have a rough estimate how often you see the ortho once

you're in

the FAB/DBB? I'm thinking that if it's not too frequently, we'll just make the

drive to Iowa

when we need to and scrap the current doc altogether!!

Thanks for the input!

Stacee-

at least our ortho did the following-we saw him/got in the brace and

begin the 23/7 wear for 3 months-he saw us at 8 weeks just to make

sure things were going ok and then at the end of the 3 months. after

that we saw him at 3 month checkup and then another 3 month checkup-

was released to 6 mo checkup at that point.

I think that unless there are issues you return in six months - it's been a long

time for us though so I don't totally remember.

i can understand why nobody wants to just measure his uncasted foot. My

daughter, Maddie, has bilateral club feet, but her right foot is about 1.5 to 2

sizes smaller than her left. So, she needs two different size Markells, one 000

and one 0000. We'll be getting those next week. I wish the first " orthotist "

had measured her correctly, and then we wouldn't have gone through all the

slipping and pressure sores, etc. I guess what I'm saying, is it's best to have

the orthotist measure both feet separately in case there is a difference. It

should save you some hassles. Hope everything works out. An experienced

orthotist is worth their weight in gold, I found out. Good luck and keep us

posted.
