Guest guest
You know everyone is different and your baby is in his own comfort zone right now. At his age, it's really not time yet to be concerned. He is after all on his feet cruising, so you can be almost complete sure it's not a physical issue. When he's ready, when he feels confident with his ability, he'll take off, you'll see Everyone swore my Everett would be an early walker cuz he started to stand and cruise earlier than " normal " but he went months and months and months not walking independently until one day he did it for a few days. Then he quit for a few months! And then, he started to walk and never quit. Now days he wears big loud bells on his shoes just so I don't lose him. Just relax and let him feel safe with what he has and he'll come around is my bet. s. Re: The walking blues!!! :-( Hey! I know what you are going through! My son was a term baby but I think the casts and bar slowed him down. He cruised for a long time and seemed very uniterested in trying to go any further. But ONE DAY... he took 3 steps and sat down. I only saw it out of the corner of my eye and wasn't sure if I saw right. He got up and did it again! He was 16 months old then. He is 18 months now and is all over the place.I really don't think you have anything to worry about. ONE DAY he will decide he is ready to try it. If you are trying to help him along i.e. holding his hands while he walks, calling him to you, might I suggest stopping for a week or so. It may get him motivated to try it on his own. > > Well here we are at almost 17 months and Aidan is still not walking by himself. Yes, he was almost 3 months premature, but still. I'm beginning to worry. He's been cruising around furniture and walking behind a scooter and holding fingers for as long as I can remember. However, as soon as I let go he sits down. > > He has started to take one or two steps between the couch and sofa but if he's not next to those objects forget it. > > Most importantly, when he walks holding my hand it seems his left foot turns out pretty far to the left and his right foot is straight forward. He was bilateral clubfoot, with the right being a little stiffer than the left. It appears he also is dragging the left foot a little. He doesn't do it all the time though. When I walk him through the grass he picks up both feet equally. > > Thanks for listening, very concerned mother. Anyone else have late walkers. > > > --------------------------------- > Yahoo! Guest guest
Jen, Noah did the same thing. He didn't start walking till he was about 2 in a half. Please don't let this scare you. He has some other problems wich the doctors have not figured out yet. He has seen a neruo doc for a year and still nothing. If you ask me I just think he is stubborn and didn't want to do anything with his foot. Just like his sitting up and crawling. jubilantones wrote: We noticed the same very wide turnout with one of Zeke's feet when he was cruising but not walking on his own yet. We happened to have a checkup w/Dr. Ponseti during that time, and when he saw Zeke cruise, he had the ortho change the angle of the shoe for the foot which was turning out farther down to 60 degrees (not turned out as much). I don't know if this is pure coincidence, but within days Zeke was taking steps on his own and that foot didn't look so turned out. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your imput it makes me feel alot better. I really never worried about it before but lately it seemed EVERY SINGLE baby we came across was walking at 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 months and I think I just started over analyzing and panicking a bit. I got caught up in the baby comparison (which I know deep down you should never do). I had a weak moment I guess. Thanks again, I'm feeling much better about it. Guest guest
Thanks Kathleen for sharing that with me. Last night Aidan actually took 3 steps down the side of the couch without holding on. I don't think he realizes he's doing it. leenernd wrote: - You certainly got plenty of responses but I wanted to let you know that we too have a late walker. Our little guy also at 16 months does exactly as Aidan-the minute he doesn't have the support, he sits down. His little face is sooo determined though-I can see the wheels working in his brain-he just doesn't feel comfortable as yet to let go. We are trying to make it a game of it for the " let go " part to get him more comfortable. His PT and Ped are not too concerned-they said they would be at 18 months(LOL-how 2 months really makes that much of a difference). My only consolation is his 2 classmates who are just now walking independently and have finally graduated to his classroom(out of the infant room)-both have no known physical issues and are the same age as our . I figure he will walk in his own time(although dh is more anxious than I). was given smo's to wear during the day to help his stability-he is soo loose ligamented that he has no ankle support-and we have really seen a difference.Hang in there-I know how you feel!! take care, kathleen mom to david bcf fab 12/7 8/28/04 > > Well here we are at almost 17 months and Aidan is still not walking by himself. Guest guest
Thanks , we're going to his specialist pediatrician at the end of January and I'm definitely going to bring it up. He doesn't do it all the time, in fact, it seems to be less and less but I notice it more when he's barefoot vs wearing shoes. wrote: Jen, It really sounds like just a case of him not being interested in walking yet. My son just turned 15 months and just started walking one day, like you said he'd been cruising and walking with toys for a long time and then finally just started doing it. I know it seems like forever but since he was pre-mature I would definitely say he is still well w/in the normal range. What you mention about the way his right foot is not turned out and the dragging the foot is what concerns me -- I would go with your mommy instinct and get it checked out. Also, do you notice this more with or without shoes? I really noticed Sammy walking funny when he had shoes on when he first started cruising/walking, kind of stepping awkwardly with his clubfoot. > > Well here we are at almost 17 months and Aidan is still not walking by himself.
