Please, if you can help with the bill being submitted to the Ohio Legislature,

please write a letter today, ASAP to Rasley - email drasley@...

Explain what wls has done for you. If you haven't gotten wls, explain why you

would like it. Be sure to mention DS and why you think this is the best way to

go.

She said she is trying to get the wls covered - all types that are recommended

or suggested by the NIH.

She needs as many emails as you can write immediately.

She is going to be in Columbus tomorrow morning.

Thanks in Advance,

Carole

Well, folks - my consult with Dr. Hess got moved up to Oct. 8th from Nov.

12th. I asked to be notified if they could fit me in earlier and they were

able to because the Drs changed some plans and they had extra office times

open. On Oct. 5th I am going to my new PCP. I have already talked to the

PCP on the phone and he supports wls if I know what I am getting into and if

medically necessary. I found out the insurance I have does NOT require a

referral. I can basically refer myself directly to any Dr. and go from

there. Dr. Hess, of course, is out of network, but his hospital is in

network.

What I wanted, though, was to get a " referral " letter from the PCP just to

cover my bases. Since I see him Friday and see Dr. Hess Monday, that doesn't

give him a lot of time to write a referral. So - should I have a format of

one made up to take with me to him? If any of you have something like that

can you post it or send it to me personally at MsMystic1@...? This PCP I

am meeting doesn't know about DS so I told him I would explain it to him - so

maybe another chance to educate another Dr. for future patients? I have

already printed out lots of stuff on DS to take with me for him to read (Hess

Brochure, the Web MD article with Dr. Anthone, the information from the

Pacific??? site that has stuff on to my fellow surgeons, or Drs or something

like that (sorry, I don't have it right in front of me right now and don't

have time to look it up). I put it all in a notebook I can take with me and

he can read it when he has time and learn about the DS.

Basically, I need to know what does a referral letter from a PCP say? I

guess I can take it with me to Dr. Hess for the appt.

Also - just wanted you all to know that I wrote for my medical records from

my last 3 Drs. - goes back about 10 yrs. I was amazed at the medical

notations about being an obese woman and how we had talked about me losing

weight and alternatives to do so - and listings of times I had been dieting

and had lost some weight. So I actually have medically supervised dieting

provable. And I didn't even know it! Maybe some of you have it, too, but

you just don't know because you haven't asked for your medical records. I

had no problem getting them. All I did was write and ask, tell them approx

when I was a patient, give them my current address and the address where I

lived when I went there and included my social security number just to prove

it was me asking (they already have this, cause they ask for it when you

first fill out your new patient information) and they sent it pretty quickly

- within 2 weeks.

Now I'm getting scared - this is really scarey if you let yourself think of

being cut open and how your insides will be rearranged once this is done. I

still have a ways to go until the actual date is here (and lots to do like

get insurance approval) but it is scarey just thinking about it and hoping it

will all turn out ok.

You don't have to take the referral with you on the

8th. Just ask your PCP for a referral for WLS most

likely he will know what to put in the letter if not

It should include why it is medically necessary for

you to have this surgery and the benefits. Then have

your pcp fax it to Dr. Hess. YOu may want to bring

Dr. Hess's fax number with you. To get a jump on

approval take a copy of your pervious medical records

with you to Dr. Hess (anything pertaining to wt.) By

having your pcp write a referral you may not have to

pay for out of network. I was able to get approved

not only out of network but out of state and since I

went through my pcp I won't have to pay anything

except for 20.00 copay for consult.

Good Luck

BE HAPPY

I live alone. I was to be discharged 24 hrs after surgery but

begged to stay one more night only because I live 200 miles away and

did not want something to go wrong being so far away.

I had no problems at home. I stocked up before surgery with broths,

yogurt, Atkins shakes, eggs, cottage cheese, cream soups, crystal

light, etc. My surgeon allows driving 5 days post-op if lap, 2

weeks if open. First day home I walked 1/2 mi in am and pm. Fourth

day post op I was walking 1 mile in am and again in pm. I only

avoided lifting anything. If it wasnt for the holidays, I would

have been back to work the day after having staples removed.

The only thing unusual was I napped on demand and had no alarm clock

to wake to.

Pennie,

Please don't listen to them. You are doing great. Before you do anything

like take fat burners please please check with your Doctor. Your only a few

weeks out from surgery and have already 20 +/- pounds. I think that's

fantastic.

Keep up the good work. Every body is different and we all lose at a

different rate. I am 8 weeks out from surgery had have lost 30 pounds.

Certainly am

not complaining.

Okay, according to my calculations you have lost 31 pounds since your

surgery. Your surgery has not even been a full month yet. I would say you

are doing great. The average weight loss for the first month is approx. 25

to 30 pounds (correct me if I'm wrong folks), so therefore it seems you are

on the right path. As for taking over the counters, I would avoid that at

all cost, especially since you said you had a heart attack. When you start

feeling like it, I think walking or working out in the pool would be your

best bet. Hope this helps.

Absolutely right Vickie. The site with the weightloss predictions puts

Pennie right where she should be at the 1 month point (between 26-34

pound loss when starting at 312). Just keep a positive attitude Pennie,

work out, eat what you should when you should, how you should (ie:

Pouch Rules for Dummies) and you'll keep on the mark. Best of luck!

Neurosarcoidosis. I had what I thought was back pain, that turned into extreme

headache. Was hospitalized in late June because my CSF was 2 1/2 times the

normal pressure. Neurologist believes I had aseptic meningitis with sarcoid.

MRI/CAT scans were unremarkable. Elevated ACE levels and " strange cells " . I feel

like it may be in my lungs as well. My brother has a severe case of

neurosarcoid( genius to MR in 3 yrs) and my cousin a severe case of pulmonary.

Both with other organ involvement. Anyway...

enough about Sarcoid to treat me sufficiently. I decided to not go to the local

Francisco. SF has now " declined " to see me. They reviewed my paperwork and

decided I did not warrant their being seen by them.
