Guest guest
Cathy and Lilka I agree rules do need to be set for each individual. Things are so different for each of us. It does help though to understand a few things, when you are post op at Lilka's point you should be eating 3 meals 4 ozs each and 75% of it should be protein if you want to lose. When I was at that stage 4 ozs I was full, many times won't finish the whole meal that's why the protein should be first. Just like the 10% we had to lose and we needed to do 1200 calorie, well you shouldn't be going over this if you're wanting to lose even as a post op. As time goes by the calories will increase and the weight will come off slower, so for now try to stay about this or less. Up until I was at 6 months I was only eating 900 to 1100 calories. So if you add up your calories and they are more than this yes then your cheese should be low fat. If the calories are not then regular cheese is fine. Make sure your drinking all your water and stopping before you eat and not for an hour after. Protein will stay with you longer so your not so hungry. Make sure your taking your vitamins, exercising regularly and getting a good nights sleep, all these things work together. You will adjust things for yourself as you go, but I hope these guide lines help a little. Take care. Donna J. Rules are funny things. They tell us what we can and can't do, and we fight against them, but they also make the world seem more manageable and safer and more secure. As long as there are rules, then if we follow the rules we're doing what we should and if things don't work out right it's not our fault. Without rules, it's scary; it's easy to make mistakes and hard to know what to do.However, the real world isn't neat and tidy. Sometimes you have to know the general principles and then apply them in ambiguous situations. That's true for children learning to deal with moral issues in a complex world, and it's true for WLS patients learning to deal with food. Each person's body is a little different. One person can tolerate cheese but beef makes her sick; another person can eat eggs one day but a week later finds they make him queasy. And each person will lose weight at a different rate. You've come a long way already. You're making huge changes in your life. Don't force yourself to fit into someone else's shoes - you have to learn to live YOUR life, and you have to learn what the rules are for YOU. Guest guest
Lilka Your doing great, the 4 ozs is the size of the whole meal. Not just the protein. I just eat many protein, but whatever you eat it should not be over 4 ozs all together. The doctor said it's best to stay at 4 ozs, but very max is 6 ozs. At 4 ozs you lose the best. I did read the message to Cathy and you are doing good. Keep up the good work, it will all work out. Take care. Donna J.Lilka wrote: Hi donna, I appreciate your advice so much. I am doing all that you said but I still don't eat 4 oz of protein most meals. I hope you read my post to Cathy. You will see what I am doing to help myself and I am feeling better. I still go to Curves and swim a lot. I cut out the cheese today and am enjoying other foods. I am determined. That is what the doctor said too.
