Guest guest
Hello All, I have an 11 month old that just got his helmet off and still has some ear misalignment. The PT said the only way to get them in-sync was to keep stretching him. He fights me 95% of the time. I chew gum, blow bubbles which sometimes helps or give him my cell phone or something new....I was just wondering if anyone had some unique ideas???? Thanks, Lori DOC Band 1/12-5/15/
Guest guest
Hello Lori Have a look at a thread a few days back named 'Exercises painful' Im a newbie and people put lots of ideas on this thread for me about stretching. Some of them might also help you. Guest guest
Hi Lori, I had to turn my son's exercises into a game because it made him cry so much it made me cry. I would hold his head to one side, and count 1, turn to the other side, hold it, and return back, then do it gain for 2 and 3. If he started to get fussy, I'd change it up so he didn't know which way I was going. He would giggle and smile while I made funny faces. But now you are scaring me talking about 's assymetry since my son's has not improved much and he's been in the DOC Band since March (going to graduate this end of this month, hopefully)and I was doing his PT from 2 - 5 months then stopped because he has full range of motion. Where should I take him to now? The pediatrician was no help, he sent us to a ear, nose, throat specialist; Cranial Tech taught us some PT but said he looked good so I stopped the exercises! Any ideas anybody?! Guest guest
try facing your baby towards you on your lap and giving him a big cuddle with his head faced the right way and squish him into your boobs so he cant move, they think it's just a big hug but really your stretching them! > > > > > > > > > > > Hello All, I have an 11 month old that just got his helmet off and > > > still has some ear misalignment. Guest guest
My son also used to fight me all the time and we never got any stretching done since he cred so much... I now lay him on the floor and kneel in front of him then cut his head in my hands then do the ear to shoulder stretch both sides with breaks in between. I sing to him and blow raspberries on his belly and neck now he loves it and the singing and the tickling gets his mind off it and he will stretch really well. We have noticed a HUGE improvement with ROM and tilting since I have been doing it this way. I also lightly push his shoulder down so that he is getting a good stretch. I can tell because I can see the muscles stretching this is how I know I am doing it right. Hope that helps, I know this can be hard especially when they fight. I do not continue if he starts to cry I give him a break and start again, I don't want him to to think this is torture. We get his DOC band on Monday so we will see how he does stretching with it, I am not sure I may need to remove it before stretching I guess we will find out on Monday. Guest guest
Hi! My daughter hated being forced to lay down, she whines and fights me during diaper changes too!!! and silly faces and noises only work when she's in a good mood. A trick I had was she has this stuffed animal that she loves that giggles and laughs and I would lay her down on her back and run it around her head on the floor so she would move her head in all directions which really helped and just pause in certain spots and hold a stretch. If she was really grumpy i would pop in a baby einstein DVD and snuggle her placing the side of her face against my shoulder and using my free hand to hold the other side of her chin and secretly stretch her neck while she thought she was just watching a movie and snuggling mamma. hope those ideas help!
