Her name was Parrish she had the DS on 5/31. She was not a member of this group, but she was a fellow DSer. We both were on the same group for our Drs support group. I don't know all the details, but it is my understanding that became dehydrated and anemic soon after surgery and required a blood transfusion. Her body rejected the blood and her kidney and liver failed. This is a very sad time for her family, friends and our group. If you are so inclined please say a prayer that her family will get through the rough road ahead. Thank you : wow, I send my condolences and prayers to 's family... I am so saddened to hear of her death, especially so relatively soon after her surgery. Thank you for informing us --- I think that anyone, whether they are on this DS list, are active/non-active members should be remembered. Is there any way we could contact her family to send a card or e-card? all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. Gagner/Mt. Guest guest
Had she had problems keeping fluids down or did she get careless about following the required fluids, suppliments, etc? Is what happened to her something that could have been prevented? Please get more details. I am still researching and this is the first time I've heard of this kind of problem. Guest guest
This surgeon (Dr , right?) has had an awfully high rate of problems with his WLS patients as I recall. As with all surgeons, there are those who adore him. I fear his stats are not so good, however. As I recall he was doing the MGB because patients wanted it- - an outdated surgery that was abandonded for WLS many year ago because of bile reflux. Then he started doing the DS. I'd love to know where he learned to do it.. And I also recall that a number of his lap RNY laps had to be converted to open ones.. That is my recollection. And I have tried to keep quiet whenever anyone says they are going to him. I would not ever refer anyone to him until I was able to determine that the informaiton I posted abose is incorrect. Some complications just happen. And other surgeons seem to have more than their share. in Seattle > Had she had problems keeping fluids down or did she get careless about > following the required fluids, suppliments, etc? There's a Dr. Rutledge in North CArolina, I believe, who makes his living off the MGB. He touts that it is 'safer' and has a quicker recovery time. He claims that the BilirothII connection of intestines to stomach doesn't really hold any greater risk of gastric cancer (this was one of the main reasons, as you mentioned with the bile reflux, that the procedure did not become widespread). all the best, Lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. Gagner/mt.sinai/NYC eight months post-op and still feelin' fabu! preop: 307 lbs/bmi 45 now:
Guest guest
Dr Rutlege was been stopped from doing this surgery some time ago. Unfortunately there are those who do it. And their patients continue to have to be revised (to an RNY) to prevent the deadly bile reflux it causes. As I understand it, one reason Dr R got into so much trouble is that his claims about safety of the surgery were false. in Seattle > > > : It may have been abandoned my most in the WLS community, but not all. > There's a Dr. Rutledge in North CArolina, I believe, who makes his living off > the MGB.
