I don't think you need to stress about protein for a few more weeks but I don't know if the feeling you get when eating is normal. I'm 8 weeks and I don't remember that being a feeling I had....maybe some others can help you! ~~* AJ *~~ Age 37 5'8'' Post op 7/24/01 Open BPD/DS self pay - Dr Baltasar -Alcoy Spain 07/24/01 BMI 64 415.1 08/06/01 BMI 59 390.2 -24.9 lbs! -10.75 inches 08/16/01 BMI 58 387.0 -28.1 lbs! -11.25 inches 08/24/01 BMI 58 386.5 -28.6 lbs! -15.5 inches 08/30/01 BMI 58 378.3 -36.8 lbs! -21.25 inches 09/10/01 BMI 57 373.0 -42.1 lbs! Guest guest
I am having trouble eating more than 2 or 3 bites of soft foods (full liquids). I immediately get this feeling in my esophogus like the food is just sitting there instead of going into my stomach. It takes me an hour to eat 1/2 c. oatmeal. One soft boiled egg makes my lower esophogus feel pressure for 10 minutes or so, then the feeling eventually goes away. Sometimes, if the feeling is too strong, I have to vomit it back up to get relief. Consequently, I know I'm not getting my protein requirements, nor am I getting my fluids requirements. Did anybody else experience this at first? Is this due to swelling from the surgery which will go away and allow me to eat better when the swelling is gone? Is it just that my new stomach can't tolerate food yet? I figure I'm only getting about 300 - 400 calories a day in righ now. I know I'm supposed to get 64 oz. of fluid a day, but I'm working hard to just get half of that in. Tell me this is normal and will get better as time goes on........please! Guest guest
I cant eat much at once either.. i just had surgery on the 11th. I cant eat at all and drink at the same time. try separating the two.. drink after about 1/2 hr after you've eaten.. and stop before you feel full. your stomach takes about 10 mins to tell your brain its full.. for me, 1/2 of an egg is all i can eat at a time.. but i eat all day.. and sip my water all day too. Hope this helps. Sue post op 9/11 Dr. Warden > I am having trouble eating more than 2 or 3 bites of soft foods (full > liquids). Guest guest
Its perfectly normal and will get better with time. I experienced the exact same thing and I've seen many others who have, as well. Some things I tried that helped get the protein in early post-op were: tomato soup w/cheddar cheese melted in it yogurt cashews (for some reason these went down really well early on) scrambled eggs w/cheese in it (went down easier than boiled) Hope this helps and may your recovery be wonderful - Kris G Cincinnati, Ohio 5'7 " , 40 years old 8/22/00 - 283 - BMI 44.3 - Size 22 8/22/01 - 139 - BMI 21.8 - Size 6 Reached goal set by Dr. of 147 at 9 months/3 wks. ciao to 144 lbs. & 150 inches in 1 year Open BPD/DS 08/22/00 Bowel obstruction surgery 4/21/01 Dr. Maguire, Kettering OH HumanaFreedom Plus Plan iwillbefit@... http://www.newlifeteams.org 2 weeks post-op and having trouble eating | I am having trouble eating more than 2 or 3 bites of soft foods (full | liquids).
