Guest guest
Welcome, Larissa & , We're glad you're here! The most important thing is to make sure that 's feet are completely corrected. Otherwise, the bracing will be uncomfortable for him, no matter what brace it is. There is a tips and tricks document about using the brace and it's available in this group's files section and also on another website that I'll give you the link to below. Again, I can't stress enough that his feet have to be completely corrected first, though, or it will just cause him pain. Do you mind sharing with us who 's current doctor is, or what region you're in so we can recommend some good doctors near you? Did the doctor tell you if they were using the Ponseti method at all? What kind of surgery did have? Was it a tenotomy where they made a small puncture wound on his heel area to lengthen the tendon (needs no stitches to close the wound and the cast stays on for just 3 weeks) or something more than that? There's a good website here that can help you hopefully: http://members.tripod.com/ponseti_links-ivil I hope we'll be able to help you help sweet little ! & (3-16-00, left clubfoot)
Guest guest
Larissa, We had a very similar situation- Long story short, with help from the parents on this board and our new dr, we figured out that the bar was too short. Once we had the right size bar Logan started eating better again and stopped screaming all the time. We were about to switch to the mitchells, however gave the markells one more try with the correct bar and things have been fine ever since. Also there could be a problem of the foot not being corrected properly and that is why he is so uncomfortable in the shoes. and Logan help with DBB My foster son has clubfeet on both. This is his second time he been in the DBB. The first time was around 4 months old, he started the cast when he was around 1 month old, in August started the casting process. Had surgery in October wore cast for 3 more weeks. Got the DBB, wouldn't leave them on, sore on one of his foot. I call orthotics, they made me apportment, His PT told me to keep them off until I saw him. Went to the app. he said his left foot has slipped, he call the Dr. I went to the orthopedic, they started the cast back, he had the cast on until Jan 18, went back to othotics, said the right foot is a little stiff. Well I haven't had much sleep, when he gets in the DBB he don't eat much he loses weight, gets sick. I called the Dr. Yesterday they wasn't much help, I called twice. They told me to call the othotic. So I did he told me he should be getting use to then by now, it's been a week. Back of his heels are red. He just screams when he has them on, don't get no sleep. It's making me sick, I fill yucky. I need any adivise anyone can give me. My baby had a hard life be I got him. He been in are house since August 19. He was under weight when we got him, he been gaining until he gets in the DBB. Can anyone tell me about the sandal-type footwear. Has anyone wore these before shoes. I think they are called Ponseti AFO. Send any information anyone can. Need help. Thanks Larissa 7-15-

Guest guest
, someone told me you're in Oklahoma but somehow I missed that if you are. I'm in Oklahoma too - where abouts are you located? I have 2 sons with club foot over here about an hour south of Tulsa. I understand being a foster-child situation you might be limited on what you can do but my first advice is try to pull strings to get the child's cf treatment out of Oklahoma - obviously there is no one here who can treat this condition with much success. shawnee help with DBB My foster son has clubfeet on both. Guest guest
My first question would be is, is he fully corrected? 70degrees abducted, 10-15degrees dorsoflexed. My daughter has worn both, and I can tell you, I will NEVER go back to the DBB! She also have A-Typical CF, so this does make a difference. I would say get the s. They are SO worth it! Christee Mother of... *Josh, Central Auditory Processing Disorder/Sensory sensitivity/learning & Speech disorders (9yrs old) **Aspen, Bilateral minor Metatarsus Adductus (5 1/2 yrs old) ***Dylan, (4 yrs old) & ****Lilee ~ Unilateral A-Typical (complex) Club Foot w/Cavus/Plantaris (R foot) & Mild/Moderate Metatarsus Adductus (L foot). *Ponseti/ Brace 22/24 until 2/14/06, then to 18/24. --------------------------------- Bring words and photos together (easily) with PhotoMail - it's free and works with Yahoo! Guest guest
Geesh, it's almost worth my time and gas money to drive over to OKC and meet this guy just so I can show him what the friggen Ponseti Method IS. Sorry - there are just so many doctors who claim to use it because they have absolutely no understanding of what it is. They throw the term around like some new fad. They seem to think Serial Casting is Serial Casting. Dr. Ponseti himself has told me there is no one in Oklahoma qualified to his method and considering not one of my children's doctors has ever heard the word PONSETI until I mentioned, how likely is it? I " m talking health departments for vaccines, pediatritians, various other hospitals and clinics for various other ailments over the years, the OBGYN's I've seen, the ultra sound specialists at 3 different places (including Tulsa) that diagnose the condition.......... Rrrrgggh. OK - enough griping. There is a list of questions available for parents to ask their doctor regarding the treatment of club foot to ensure the child is getting the right kind of care. It's in the files/links, not sure - but that would be a good first step towards all this. I would hope the foster child system would allow a parent to persue better methods of treatment but being a State agency my hopes aren't too high about that. s.
