I don't know..but I know that it takes me all day to drink one can. I think

the carbonation is very filling so I try to wait till the end of the day to

have it so I've not taken up room for my protein and water. I think every

dr. is different. Some say yes, some say no. Personally, I think its

changed my tastebuds and I don't crave it like I used to. I really like

drinking it occasionally now than 5 or 6 a day...I'm sure its much healthier.

Dr. Baltasar didn't say I couldn't have pop...but I also never asked. I

think if you ask here on the list you'll get many different answers. My

attitude is in moderation it won't hurt anything.

Dr. Anthone strongly discourages you from drinking anything with

carbonation especially in the first several months. Some people drink

it by removing the carbonation first. Some people are able to

tolerate more than others.

Micky: I agree. These were the reasons given by our old nutritionist

Niccole as to why immediate post-ops were discouraged from drinking sodas

(even diet sodas). They weren't off limits but she recommended that we limit

them as much as possible. I asked her whether the carbonation was supposed

to 'stretch' the stomach (I've heard some rumors about that) and she said

that wasn't the case.

Some people do have bad reactions to the carbonation and prefer flat soda, at

least immediately post-op. I didn't experience problems with it at all --

but I don't drink as much of it post-op... I can never really finish a can on

my own now, so it just seems like a waste to me. I try to get the

caffine-free stuff whenever possible so I don't minimize my calcium

absorption but I just don't find I crave it or want it much anymore.

Funny, eh?

Kathy,

It does a number on me. I do not even desire it. Everyone is different

though.

You won't really know until after your surgery. I won't even know until

later. Maybe 6 months or 1 year from now maybe I can drink it again.

I agree, AJ. Pre-op I was a Pepsiolic! Now, I just have my Sprite a little

and I don't have to have 5-6 cans a day. Nor do I want it!!That's the great

thing about it!

I'm the same way. I used to drink Pepsi all day long. But now I buy a small

bottle of Sprite and take a swig of it once in a while. That's all I want.

When we go out to dinner I order Sprite and end up leaving 7/8 of it. I

don't drink anything with caffine or else I get the runs really bad again.
