If you click on his name, in hypertext below, you will be able to review his credentials. I hope that this information is helpful to you. Bobbi Bobbi Ryder President & CEO National Center for Farmworker Health, Inc. 1770 FM 967 Buda, TX (512) 312-5453 direct line (512) 312-5451 Mendoza , Assistant (512) 312-2600 www.ncfh.org ______________________________________________ Please join me in welcoming our new CDC director and ATSDR Administrator, R. Frieden, M.D., M.P.H. He’s been the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene since January 2002. Actually, he is coming BACK to CDC. He became a CDC EIS Officer in 1990; he spent 5 of his years at CDC in India working on tuberculosis control, and he worked for CDC for a total of 12 years. Dr. Frieden is a consummate innovator. He’s had dramatic success in New York City using policy approaches to reduce tobacco use and eliminate trans-fats in restaurant meals, to name just a couple of examples. I know CDC will be in great hands with Dr. Frieden; I look forward to working with him during this transition and welcoming him when he arrives in early June. I also look forward—once he’s here—to returning to my previous position as Director of the Coordinating Office of Terrorism Preparedness and Emergency Response, rejoining my colleagues there, and continuing to prepare our agency and our nation against urgent threats to the public’s health. It has been my great pleasure and honor to hold the CDC Director/ATSDR Administrator position these past few months, and I thank all of you for your tremendous support, hard work, and unending enthusiasm as I learned on the fly. I’m grateful for this opportunity to get to know and work with so many of you from all across CDC and ATSDR. What has impressed me most is your passion and commitment—in every corner of CDC I have seen people passionate about their work and about what we are all here to do: improve and protect the health of the people everywhere. I strongly encourage your support of Dr. Frieden as he rejoins CDC. He will need your terrific professionalism and dedication as he leads us into the challenges of health reform, improving the daily health and wellness of all people, and strengthening the public health infrastructure, from funding to staffing to science. This is a tremendously exciting time for public health. The opportunities and challenges are tremendous. Under Dr. Frieden’s leadership, we can and will make a difference. E. Besser, M.D. Acting Director, CDC, and Acting Administrator, ATSDR
