Guest guest
my son who is 2.7 is autistic he was born with a bicusped aortic valve not a serious condition most go undetected 2 in every 100 people have this..at my son's yearly cardiology check up the cardiologist suggested that my son's delay was most likely a birth deffect not brought on by vaccinations or metabolic problems...which can't be true due to the fact that my son developed normally until 2 when he began to lose his words and started stimming....does anyone else know of an autistic with a heart deffect? you can e-mail me privately if you would like.... thanks sharon c. Guest guest
My son also has a heart defect (ventricular septal defect...in other words a hole in his heart) He seemed to be developing normally in other ways until 15 months when he had a major regression. Sharon, my son is doing WONDERFUL with the diet. He had lost every word but one and now I can't even count how many words he has. He is so much more focused. I truly believe that before any other interventions or therapies would have worked for him we needed to clear the " fog " that the gluten and casein causes in his brain. Keep up the diet...three weeks ago my son (3-1/2) who could only say " da- da " a year ago said " I lu yu " and kissed me.
Guest guest
Sharon, The diet has helped and continues to help tremendously. It has cleared the fog, virtually stopped his tic disorder and allows him to enjoy eating again. We have had so much language develop in the last 4 months on the diet it's amazing! We thank God for people like this group who have helped us when doctors have come up empty handed. Guest guest
>My son also was born with a ventricular septal defect (VSD) which in his case was a very large hole in the heart. His cardiologist told me that, although they do not know what causes this, they do know that whatever it is happens during the 5th week of pregnancy, and it COULD be caused by environmental toxins. I was at the time working in an office that was undergoing renovations, and the smells from the paint and carpet glue were sometimes overwhelming. I have no proof, but the cardiologist said he would not be suprised if that were a factor. He also seemed to be developing normally until around 3 when we started noticing the odd behaviors. Guest guest
> My son has been on the diet since September 2000. He is high functioning, and we have seen some improvement though not the dramatic improvements others have reported. He is more even tempered, less aggressive, better able to concentrate. I suspect there are more things we need to cut out, but have been reluctant to do so as he eats such a limited diet to begin with. He stims a lot (running mostly). He is 7 and in second grade, which just started last week, and so far seems to be transitioning in much better than either kindergarten or first grade, probably due to the diet.
