Guest guest
Hello everyone...we live in GA, so it never gets *too* cold here, but we're traveling to see my parents in Nevada in a month, and I'm not sure how to keep Eli's feet warm. (He's in the Markell shoes/bar.) He wears socks in the shoes, but not too thick, cuz the shoes are small (to ensure his heel stays in place). Has anyone found anythign that works to put over the shoes? I thoughts about buying a larger pair of wool socks and cutting a hole in teh bottom (where teh brace attaches)...any other ideas? Guest guest
Last winter I got a large pair of " padders " and some velcro and a very small piece of matching scrap fabric. I cut the padders on the inside from the ankle to approximately where the bar would come out and sewed each side to seal it. I sewed several layers of the scrap fabric in to a little 'tag' rectangle, and then sewed that to the front 'seam' I'd just created so that when I pulled it over to the other side the seam was hidden. Make sense? Then I sewed one side of the velcro to the tab all the way around the edge and in an X through it to secure it well. Then I put the shoe on over the bar, pinned where the other piece of velcro needed to go on the back side of the seam and then sewed that on. Worked like a charm. We used it a lot during the day when she was wearing the bar more hours at home as we live in OH and it gets darn cold here but our thermostat stays at 68. Her toes were always toasty. I gave them away or I'd send a picture. I assume any bootie type thing would do if it is thick enough to keep his feet warm. Guest guest
A bit more complicated but during E's first winter in the FAB I converted a pair of house shoes to fit over each shoe. Wasn't that easy to do though so I never did it twice... I " m thinking now though that a pocket would be handy... like the bottom portion of a sleep sack that slips over the entire fab with an elastic top that helps hold it on around the legs. Clear as mud? But he only wears it at night now so we have no real need for something to warm the feet anymore. s. Re: Keeping Feet Warm Not that it may done by the time you need them.
