Guest guest
There is no special assistance for ASD kids here. They don't even recognize anything but the obvious autism- and those kids are placed in either mentally handicapped, emotionally handicapped, or severely handicapped classes. The other kids are considered ADHD and put on medication. There is no understanding of these different conditions and I know from talking to some special ed teachers that they are frustrated trying to explain the differences to the system. Even with the dx of ADHD the teachers don't understand that these kids aren't mentally handicapped. Since no one understand ASD here, these children are considered bad kids, and problems. This feeling is, of course, passed on to the other children. I know that is blessed with her system. And I've heard several people on this list who have great systems, but I think many of us don't. I can't even imagine a system that understand and is helpful for our kids. Lolita >I can vouch that in here in rural Missouri, the things >that Miriam said are absolutely true. The aides >make minimum wage, get absolutely no training on how >to handle these children, and they will hire >practically anyone for the job because no one wants >it.
