Guest guest
Is it really possible to change a type " A " personality to a type " B " ? Guest guest
My physc eval was nothing. I sat and answered a few verbal questions with the doctor and that was it. It took a whole 20 minutes. Some people have to answer hundreds of questions. Mine was easy. And I just did my sleep study on Monday. It was nothing. I would suggest that you take your own pillow to be a little more comfortable. The hardest thing is getting to sleep in a strange room and the oxygen sensor that they put under my nose. But I did not have any problems with it whatsoever. You will be ok. Dora Re: hi all I haven't, but am pre-op with them, so far they've been great, and Dr. Lawpopski is really nice and attentive too! Guest guest
We have experienced similar issues that Tracie has already written about. When jenny was first put on the prdnisone 6o mg a day it initially helped. Then the roller coaster ride to hell and back began. I sort of laughed at Tracie's commentary about taking a swing at the hubby. I'm sorry it isn't really funny but it reminded me of when first started her round with Pred we had gone to Sams club. We are going along putting things in the cart and as we rounded one corner she suddenly became Mrs Hyde. screaming at me and throwing things back out of the cart yelling we dont need all of this crap. Then there was the weight gain and the puffiness that the pred caused in her face and arms. The doctors eventually started her on Methotrexate and began weaning her off the pred. It has taken almost 4 years for the prednisone to get down to a level of 5 mg a day but along the way we have added cellcept as a replacement to the methotrxate. There always seems to be some additional drug needed as prednisone does not seem to work long term nor should it be used long term in high doses according to our present doc. Take care of yourself. Guest guest
Hi Joan! Welcome to the group! Speaking from my own 5 years with the lovely prednisone I also didn't have too much of an appetite for approximately the first 6 months or so. Then I started my Cytoxin treatments with the addition of 100 mg in my IV every month I started packing on the pounds. It's 5 1/2 years later and I have gained 60 lbs and the lovely moon of prednisone. I have had & still crave sugar like there's no tomorrow. I have found that a tablespoon of peanut butter helps with the craving. inc tucky Join our Sock Challenge for Orphans in Kazakhstan http://groups. yahoo.com/ group/Mittens_ for_Akkol/ grannylunatic@... Guest guest
Marla Joan, You will get an appetite soon, one thing Pred does it make you want to eat, eat,and eat. but be sure to drink lots of water. The Pred usually helps pretty quick..  This is my take on the drug. I have a love/hate relationship with it, when I need it I love it, but if I have to be on it too long I hate it, it's just a band aid and they need to finding something to treat you with, now sometimes if its your first you might do really good with it, and not need anything else, but need to get off it. I hope this helps, I'm sorry you have to deal with Sarcoid, I've hadit 14 years, and for the most part it's not fun. Blessings, Marla  HI EVERYONE, AFTER BATTLING AND SUFFERING FROM FACIAL PAIN AND LOTS OF TESTING spinal tab MRIS - the neurologist and pulmonary spec have come up with a diagnosis - neuro sarcodosis. They have started me out on 60 mg predisone per day. I am feeling a little betterr. Guest guest
Oh my gosh, you are going to blow up! I hated that and still regret the shape it left my body in. I went into the hospital weighing 126 lbs and after three weeks of prednisone, I weighed 197 lbs. I stayed that way for about a year and finally when I was better and my dose was lowered, I was left with drooping skin everywhere. I have always looked younger than my age; but prednisone repercussion has left me with a sagging neck, face, arm, legs and buttocks. I desparately want surgery because I feel trapped inside this body when actually I still feel young. I surely hope you fair better. Guest guest
Hi, It took about 4 months for me to develop an appetite when I started the Prednisone but my cardiologist said that he has seen similar results with some of his other patients. When the appetite did kick in it is almost an out of body experience I would find my self eating without realizing it and craving salt and carbs. I just make an effort to keep plenty of water and healthy food choices around. Eventually my body has seemed to adjust though. Guest guest
When my doctor told me that I had to take high doses of prednisone he said it had a lot of side effects including the moon face and weight gain. He said, and I quote, "you could gain a hundred pounds." I was really scared about that but knew that I needed the prednisone for the nuerosarc. I started at 80 mg a day and gradually tapered it down to zero over two and a half years. It is a tough drug but my body responded to it as it brought down the inflammation of the nuerosarc. I was so afraid of gaining weight that I exercised as much as I could. When my legs were too weak to walk, I swam. Gradually I added a stationary bike and eventually a treadmill. I think the exercise really helped. I did get the moon face but only (only?) gained 17 pounds. After stopping the prednisone I lost the 17 pounds and then some. It was very difficult for me but not the terrible nightmare I was worried about. Good luck....
Guest guest
Exercise is the key to keeping your weight down, I'm glad you could do that, \for a lot of us, exercise is a limited option. I know myself I have been using a treadmill for years. but the longest I've ever been able to walk level 2, is 20 minutes, right now I'm at 8-10 with this cough, but I keep at it, and it's not enough to lose weight, and I still gained while on the pred for 3 + years. I keep on doing as much as I can when I can, I can't ride a bike, I haven't tried swimming, getting in most pools the water is just cold enough to cause pain, then I'm worse off. I am so glad it worked for you, that's awesome, I got the moon face too, at least that went away:) Marla  When my doctor told me that I had to take high doses of prednisone he said it had a lot of side effects including the moon face and weight gain. He said, and I quote, " you could gain a hundred pounds.
